Typhoon

There will be no jokes about my age.

Nicknames

Typhoon Phooey, The Little Prince, The Boone, Ty Ty

Origin

We were devastated at the loss of Rusty and knew that we needed a fun-loving dog to bring some of the lost spark back. Interestingly, we were not convinced that Typhoon would fit based on what we had read about him on Siberian Husky Assist's website, but we trusted them enough to take the two hour drive to meet him. As we walked around a large park and let him interact with each member of The Herd, it became clear that he was a good fit. Thus, on January 5, 2013, Ty joined The Herd.

We have long been partial to two syllable names with hard sounds because they are easy for a dog to learn as its name. We wanted to keep his given name Ty, but add a second syllable. We mentioned a number of possibilities on our blog and one of the reader's came up with Typhoon. We never quite realized what naming a dog after a natural disaster could bring.

Personality

Little Prince sums it up. He is full of himself and thinks the world revolves around him. Much to his chagrin, no other dog agrees so he spends much of his time grumbling about the lack of respect he gets.

He also is not a fan of being touched, which makes for an interesting challenge and much amusement around the house.

Voice

And we thought Cheoah was a talker. The boy talks inside, outside, in the car, at the vet's (where we have to remind him to use his inside voice), and even during walks. Yep, just in case we did not attract enough attention walking six Siberian Huskies, now we have our own megaphone during those walks.

And, Typhoon is the master of the Siberian Death Scream. For the uninitiated, that is a high pitched scream that a Siberian can master to express displeasure. People within miles can hear that displeasure.

Where he sleeps

He starts each night on the human bed, which works fine right up until someone touches him. And then he harumphs down to the floor where he throws his body on the hardwood floor in disgust.

Favorite activities

Catching rabbits. He can outrun and outmaneuver them, which is why the Hu-Dad searches for rabbits in the yard before releasing the Little Prince.
