Act Innocent

May 8, 2021 |

If you listen carefully, you can hear the whistling as Frankie Suave and Landon do their best to act innocent. Hu-Dad heard some suspicious noises and investigated. These two claimed absolutely nothing was amiss and, in case something was wrong, they had already fixed it. No further comments were made, apparently at the suggestion of their attorney-at-claw, though Hu-Dad did question the lack of eye contact.

Caption This: Walking In The Dark

May 7, 2021 |

A repair person was scheduled to stop by the house at 3 yesterday for a quick job. We were warned our walk might be slightly delayed, which proved to be true when the technician arrived late. Things deteriorated when he stayed for 3 and a half hours. When he finally left, we went for a very late stroll and by the time we returned, we were walking in the dark. Of course, now our dinner was very, very, very late. You can probably imagine the grumbling during the walk, so let’s hear it. It’s Caption This day, so what were we saying?

Suave Snack Supervision

May 6, 2021 |

The Hu-Dad thought he had a moment alone to grab a quick bite to eat in the kitchen, but Frankie was concerned. What if the Hu-Dad needed help preparing his food? What if he dropped some on the floor and needed cleanup? What if he made too much and needed to get rid of the excess? What if he needed a taste tester to be sure the food was properly prepared? Frankie believes in sacrificing himself for the humans, so a Suave Snack Supervision was required. The concerned look on Frankie’s face says it all.

A Pointed Lesson

May 4, 2021 |

Some days, the humans are just curious about what we’re doing. Landon seems to be eagerly absorbing whatever Frankie Suave is saying, but what is it? Maybe the Frank is giving the Boom a pointed lesson? What do you think?

Roscoe Adores His Hu-Aunt

May 2, 2021 |

We have many advantages of living in Asheville again. One of those is that we get to see the Hu-Dad’s sister more since she lives in Charlotte. We all celebrated her visit this weekend, but no one more than Roscoe P. Our black lab cousin Dunkin has trained her well in the art of ear scritches, something we all benefited from, but Roscoe says she is magical in that skill. The end result is the big guy hung around her as much as possible. So safe travels home and hope for a quick return, because Roscoe adores his Hu-Aunt.

A Weekend Boom

May 1, 2021 |

Someone appears to be quite alert in the yard, probably planning much mischief and fun. Whatever weekend events you have planned, just know we’re having a weekend Boom—as in Landon aka Boom Boom.

Caption This: The Claw

April 30, 2021 |

The deployment of The Claw, a key arrow in the quiver to express our displeasure and to ensure the full attention of the recipient human. We each use it to some degree, from Frankie Suave’s subtle but persistent claw when he wants his belly rubbed or ears scratched (and he will not stop tap, tap, tapping until the human complies) to Typhoon’s decidedly not subtle wallop. The real question is whether Hu-Dad heard the message. For this week’s caption this, what was Typhoon demanding from the Hu-Dad?

Pensive Prince

April 29, 2021 |

Typhoon is deep in thought about the great philosophical questions of the universe. What things would our pensive prince ponder? How fast can that squirrel run? Can I still outmaneuver a rabbit if I get a chance? When will dinner be served? Is it walk time yet? What else do you think would be on His Royal Furriness’s mind?

A Blur Of Fun

April 27, 2021 |

Hu-Dad is an old school photographer manually adjusting his aperture and shutter speed for each image. He and Typhoon discussed a posed shot, an image which could be taken with a wide open lens and slow shutter speed to capture details. Hu-Dad aimed and Typhoon flopped on the ground, spinning like a Siberian Husky break dancer. The end result is a perfectly focused eye, but the body and grass in a blur of fun. Hu-Dad said he is going to consider still art from now on.

Why Are We Wet?

April 25, 2021 |

We barely had a morning walk yesterday before the rains came and the weather didn’t break until late afternoon. When Hu-Dad finally declared the downpour had stopped and it was safe to walk, we struck out on the trail. As things happen, the weather didn’t quite hold off as long as predicted. The Little Prince, who believes all things should work to his pleasure, had one question for the Hu-Dad—Why are we wet?

Planning Failure

April 24, 2021 |

Hu-Dad was wrapping up his busyness last night when he realized he had forgotten to create today’s Herd story. He asked Frankie Suave, who is quite punctual about his bedtime, to pose for a quick photo. This is all the enthusiasm Frankie could muster upon request to help the Hu-Dad with his planning failure. Hopefully, by the time you read this, Frankie has caught up on his delayed sleep and Hu-Dad has been forgiven for his blunder.

Caption This: Home Alone

April 23, 2021 |

Hu-Dad normally works from the office here in the house, but sometimes he has to leave. Yesterday afternoon, his busyness took him into town for several hours and we were left home alone. Plus, horror of horrors, both our afternoon walk and dinner were late. When Hu-Dad came home, he asked if we had behaved. Landon took the lead in explaining how good we were. So, go ahead, Dear Reader, fill in the blanks for this week’s Caption This. What did Landon, who usually talks too much, say?
