Stay with us for a little bit and the title of the post will become clear.
First – Cheesewhiz. That would be one of the many nicknames for Cheoah. No particular purpose other than the Che sound. We call her Cheesewhiz all of the time and that gets some pretty funny reactions. (In the event you forgot how she got the name Cheoah – the Cherokee word for otter – please go see her page here. Now remember that we live beside the Cherokee Reservation, so people actually know we have a dog named Otter which is as strange as calling her Cheesewhiz).
Now for the stuck part. We use baby gates in strategic places to prevent certain leaping animals from going to places unsupervised. The gazelle of the group – Kiska – is a master at clearing baby gates, so we use a double baby gate at the base of the steps from the den because she has never figured out a way to leap over two baby gates on a curving set of steps. She will some day, and we have a third gate ready to go when that happens. Seriously.
The Cheesewhiz has never tried to go over the gates. So imagine my surprise when I came down the steps and saw this:

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Hi there Cheesewhiz!
You look so funny like “guilty” is spelled all over your gentle face. We’ve been visiting your site before though it is only now that we have thought of introducing ourselves. We are also a pack of 5 (actually 7 but Scrappy and Bullet have joined their real human pawrents in their home) and we are quite a handful for our mommy. We enjoy reading your interesting and fun stories.
Hope you can visit our world and share adventures with us. Thankies!
-Fudgie, Princess, Frappie, Mocha, Sugar, Scrappy & Bullet
Ahh…the look on her face is priceless 🙂
Very funny predicament! Fortunately our girls have never once tried to move or jump a gate. We simply lean one against the doorway and they would never think to try to get around it. Hmm…maybe Goldens aren’t so clever.
Hope you remain safe in this high wind mess. Weakened trees and branches are still falling around here. Scary stuff.
Priceless LOL!!!!!
Look at that face! She’s such a cutie! I think she was trying to help Kiska figure out how to jump those gates! 🙂
Mochi
Nothing like being challenged by a human to make you want to beat the System! You are impressively athletic…glad you were not hurt.
Completely and utterly busted. A dog after my own heart…
Well, you do have a thinking breed.. surely one of them had to figure at least part of it out.
Silly Cheezewhiz!
Someone has obviously put here there and rigged it so it looks like she may have been trying to scamper up the stairs! Of course thats it…
Koda
That is toooooo funny! As someone who has lived with gates to separate dogs and areas for more than a dozen years I understand the double and triple gate strategy quite well. Luckily, my crew has never ever jumped a gate so we can stick with single gates. If I stumbled across a stuck cheezewhiz I would fall over laughing-especially given the look on her face 😀
Excellent job, Grasshopper. Next time perhaps you can learn to hop BACK over before you get caught 😉
xoxo
Ha ha! What an expression! We use baby gates with Cabana, too, but she has no idea she has the ability to jump over them. She’s never tried, and hopefully, that’s how it will stay!
That was really funny. We pull stunts like this often around here too. Last contraption to not work out: M placed the gate on her aerobic stepper. That was the latest disaster. Cats and dogs going both under and over. I think the Cheesewhiz and the momma share some dna or iq or something. Good luck with your strategic positioning.
Twink!
Cheoah, you are simply adorable! BTW, Missus wants to find out how did your humans manage to take you guys for your daily walks without any struggle?
Love,
Homer
Too funny. That face clearly says, “Stop laughing, Mom, and get me out.”
That is great! I think I would have let her stew for a little bit 🙂
Dog Jail! Oops…that was funny.
I think that’s a staged photo. She sat there like the good puppy she is, and some biped put those gates up then took the photo.
Sibes are never guilty of wrong-doing.
Trust me.
Tail wags,
Storms
Since becoming a blogger, I always take a photo before reprimanding or dealing with my dogs’ crazy behavior. It seems that you have the same affliction!!!!
That being said, it was a very funny photo!
Oh Cheoah. Lucky you’re too cute to get into much trouble 🙂
Aw shucks, we were hoping for an actual Cheesewhiz story. We only get the stuff when we had to take medicine, its mom’s secret weapon for getting pills down with out a wrestling match.
But Mom’s dog, Rosie, used to have that same problem. Somethow she could get over the fence into the garden, but never figured out hw to get back out. Just sat there looking patheitc, (like Cheoah-Cheesewhiz looks), waiting to be rescued….yeah, like she was totally clueless how she got there. Ha-roo roo roo!
jack & moo
She probably needed a snack too. Who knows how long she had been there, waiting for rescue! Rescuers should always bring snacks!
Steve
That is funny. Talk about caught in the act.
We know all about baby gates here too and Mom keeps threatening the little bipeds to stop fooling with her gates because she needs them for us too. When Dakota and Phantom were young rascals, they knocked over a double gate just like yours while Mom and Dad were at work – and you should have seen the mess of destruction they caused. THAT was when Dad finally agreed to using crates:) Now Phantom and I are really pretty well-behaved and don’t think we still need these gates – but the Momster says just wait.
Now about that cheese – we want some too.
Woos, Phantom and Thunder
Im sure she was just trying to find you 🙂
Silly Cheesewhiz!!!! That was great!
One more thing, we’re terrible about nicknaming the poor dogs.
Echo – Tank, X, Echie the Pooh, Echie
Sabre = SabieBaby, Sabre tooth bunny rabbit
Ziva = Z, ZivaDivaDarling
Max = Dozer
LOL
OMG, look at that innocent little face. You just know Kiska set her up, right? 😉
Cheesewhiz… giggle. We call Diefenbaker “Diefendoofie”. She is very much not amused when we do.
Cate
“I was just sitting here and the gates started closing in on me!”
Wooos! Did someone say Cheese??? And how in the world did woo get in there but not be able to get out! I am a master jumper too!
Cheoah love the the OOppppsss face!!!!! Keep trying to outwit the hu-mans!!!!
This is the cutest thing I’ve seen today! She looks soooo guilty!
those cunning humans!!Cheesewhiz, call your band of brothers and break thru the great wall! Unity is strength!!
I came as quick as I could cause I heard the word cheese. Imagine my dissapointment that there is no actual cheese.
woof – Tucker
uh oh. Busted. Now, about that nickname…Why oh why do the humans have to give us such silly nicknames?
I think that’s a great nickname! Bunny could give her some pointers on gate clearing. She can leap over the back of our couch from a stand still. Ahhh, youth!
Cheesewhiz is such an awesome nickname! As for the gates, if my brother Knuckles was blogging, he’d tell you to just eat your way through the gates. That’s his solution to everything. Just chew it.
Sonic
What a handsome pack you guys are! As for Cheesewhiz, all I can say is “When there’s a will, there’s a way”, except in this case, it’s only half-way 🙂
Oh No! Too cute! 🙂
Ooopsie. hehe.
Just went through and read all your old stories… sooo funny! Your dogs crack me up! I love the game of catch… with a turtle! ahaha.
BUSTED!!!!! Sorry Cheesewhiz, but I think your excuse is melting.
Regardless, I salute you for making a great attempt at getting beyond those two gates. I wonder what they are hiding up there?! Perhaps if you work together with Kiska you two can make it. Good luck!
Suka
Looks like you need some SERIOUS floss to get the cheeswizz out of that tight space!
My question is: why would you want to keep them out of ANYWHERE in your house? seriously… i mean, they totally can be trusted. totally. just like Juno was trusted today when i went to the store for 5 minutes and left Mr. Wild Dingo in the house with her but not supervising her…yup…trash can contents were thrown around and chewed up. the squirrels did it again!
and finally: we want to see pix of the day natasha clears it. in fact, why don’t you just put a cam there now to record on movement? may as well… good siberian educational tool for HUMANS!
Just another photo opp fur the hu-dad –
That’s all it twas!
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
Oh my!! Stuck indeed!
What a tasty nickname Cheoah!
Hope all is well in the area….weather is certainly playing big all over the country.
Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,
Sierra Rose
