Some deer friends stopped by Chez Herd for a little visit, but they didn’t give us very high marks for the hospitality of our greeting.
Hu-Dad noticed last week the wild blackberry bushes growing around the edge of our field were full of berries. As the berries ripen, various creatures drift out of the woods for the tasty snack. This is the time of year we see the most bears hanging around because of nature’s berry buffet, but Hu-Dad was a little surprised to see this pair of deer.
Why surprise? While the three younger boys were snoozing inside the house, Kiska, Qannik and Cheoah were all outside. And, apparently, sound asleep because none of the three noticed our visitors. But as soon as they did see them, the race to say hello erupted.

Hurricane Hugo Memories
September 21, 2024
Thirty-five years ago, a massive storm hammered our region and left a path of destruction, leaving us with Hurricane Hugo memories.
Oh my deers!! Don’t rush off!! Stay and woo awhile with us! We’re sure you have many ”tails” to tell. Welcome to Chez Herd!
There’s so much entertainment on both sides of the fence.
Is Cheoah switching to the senior area? Or just taking a break from the boys !
Cheoah, so far, has insisted on staying on the junior side, but she prefers to stay outside this time of year. She can usually be found either under the picnic table or in her crate on the junior porch. The boys, however, prefer to be in Hu-Dad’s way as much as possible, so they sleep in his study while he works.
Mmmm! With those yummy berries I bet you Sibes will be able to greet lots of friends on the other side of the fence!
