Broiling in the Summer Sunshine

Chez Herd offers us plenty of shady spots and cool areas. Some of us, however, insist on broiling in the summer sunshine.

Typhoon broiling in the sunshine.

Roofs cover our dog porches to protect us from Mother Nature. Believe it or not, the porches sport a total of six outdoor ceiling fans (yes, one for each of us). Unfortunately, the porches are on the east side of the house. Thus, they face the rising sun and receive direct sunshine from sunrise until mid-morning. Most of us opt to hang out inside the house, but at least one can always be found outside.

I might turn over soon.

Notice that the porches still have plenty of shade to shelter from the heat, but Typhoon insists on roasting his body. No explanations can be found.

Stop trying to apply logic to me.

Mom sez: Our Kiah, Ayla, were, and now Ebby is the same way. They love(d) to lie right out in the blazing sun, and “bake their brains out”. Actually, I was told that the Siberian Husky coat is “insulated” against BOTH cold and heat, so could that be Typhoon’s “reason” or “excuse” as well?

I agree with Deborah. He might be a solar-powered dog. My black shepherd/lab mix loves to sprawl in the yard on hot, sunny days.

Come enjoy some REAL heat down here in Texas! 🙂

Maddox (black and white) loves to bake and bake and bake, I have to drag him inside. We reached 102 this weekend. When people question why in the world I have huskies in Texas, I just remind them – inside is killer a/c and fans, he knows he can come in any time. 🙂 I put my hands on his fur and amazed how toasty he gets.

Typhoon likes to push the boundaries of what is possible.

Dogs are weird. Our coal-black greyhound goes out in our back yard here in Florida in the 95-degree heat and literally cooks herself. I don’t understand it! And I don’t understand Typhoon, either, although I love him to death!

He’s filling up his solar cells for more zoomies.
