This is post 998.  We are closing in rapidly on our 1000th post and the end of our contest.  Remember, we will unscientifically select one comment from this past week  and award $50 to the animal charity named in that comment (and, of course, if no charity was named, we will draw another comment).  We will announce the winner on Saturday, but the contest runs through Thursday – so keep the comments and nominations coming.  As of 9 pm Monday night, here are the charities named and the number of nominations they have received:

Ruby is just protecting the table from any intruders:)

Joplin pups will be very happy with all the support. But in the end we know that no matter who wins, the help will be very much appreciated.

Ruby, this looks like a still life in the style of the Dutch Masters (only brighter). We love the photo and its painterly quality. For that alone, you deserve a special treat…but we are biased since momma’s a painter.

Two more days! We can see the glowing edge of this milestone…Sarge’s please.

  10. Khyra on May 31, 2011 at 8:06 pm

I believe The Golden Khousins would like me to paw fur those Houston Goldens and their Rescue Group –

Especially since we think Harley and Reufus J Wright might akhtually be the same pup!

Our vote is for Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston.
If great dogs like The Bleu and The Refus come from them they are OK in our book.

  13. The Bleu on May 31, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Pretty much anything that was served on that pretty plate or bowl has to be homemade yumminess… and you can’t fool Miss Ruby!

If she was gazing intently like that at me, I’d hop off the plate for her! Just saying.

    with love from the Bleu

  20. Fiona on May 31, 2011 at 11:17 am

We’ve got one of the glass tables, too, and man, they are a tease!!! You can SEE the food, but you can’t GET to the food. What is up with that?!? They also flatten out the poofy top of my head. Not super wild about that, either….

    *kissey face*
    -Fiona and Abby the Hippobottomus

PeeEss: We’re throwing in another vote for Paws and Stripes 🙂

Ruby – you gotta be more sneaky.

Hoping for a win for Taysia Blue. we have a few new pups into rescue this last week.

  23. HUSKYS RULE on May 31, 2011 at 8:28 am

    Dear Hu-Grandmom,

Ruby is just trying to be helpful with the kitchen clean up duties. She doesn’t want you to have to work hard to clean up. She will leave everything sparkling clean.

    Kody & Nia

    Charleston Animal Society

  24. houndstooth on May 31, 2011 at 8:24 am

So that’s what glass tables are for! Ruby, you never cease to entertain!

We vote for Quad Cities again!

  25. carolyn on May 31, 2011 at 8:08 am

Oh my I have been voting for Texas Husky Rescue but you had me at Joplin. They need all the help they can get.

Put me down for a vote for that humane society. I have a dear friend who dealt with the aftermath of Katrina, trying to find pets’ owners, and know how hard that work is. A tornado is not a hurricane but that doesn’t matter to the people in Joplin who can’t find their pets, or are depending on the humane society to help them.

BEAUTIFUL RUBY! I love the composition of that picture! Does Ruby’s mum take the pictures on Tuesday or do you go over and take them every Tuesday?

  26. Ice 'n Ayla on May 31, 2011 at 5:33 am

I’m not sure me’n Ice could take watching our people eating from under that glass table top. I think it’d be most unnerving, watching them watching us, and maybe slopping some onto the table BECAUSE they were watching us watching them, and us not being able to get at it.

  27. huskymom on May 31, 2011 at 1:56 am

Ruby sure has the glass table figured out!

As the THerd zeroes in on their 1000th post, we want to make another plug for Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue and our 2- and 4-legged pals from that organization.
