Rusty is notorious for his love of heavy equipment. If you need a refresher, check out his hauler here, his grader here, and his shovel here. But, unless you are certain ridiculously lucky dogs like these, you are currently missing that most important Siberian element – SNOW. Rusty has found the perfect solution – a piece of machinery that also produces snow – courtesy of our neighbors – Cataloochee Ski Resort. We are sure they will not miss a couple of these.

This Week's Thundering Herd Special Features
Weekly thoughts from our Hu-Dad with the latest updates on his writing projects, the books he's reading, and a gratuitous dog photo of us.
What Weather When?
March 26, 2023
How do you dress for a day in the Western North Carolina Mountains? Just answer what weather when? Good luck with that.
Way Back Wednesday
Each week, we reach back into our vault of over 4,700 previous posts and share a favorite. We hope you enjoy this look back.
The Queen and Decorum
Even after a long hike, a Queen must always avoid a fashion faux pas like, say, an out of place tongue. No, the Queen and Decorum are intact.
Rusty looks so pleased with his discovery! =) I’m sure a couple of those snow makers will not be missed. You guys could really have fun this winter!
Woops, we furgot: We’re nominating Harnessed to Hope to help all the GimpyDogs. That will please the Queen. (Not Queen Natasha, the other Queen, Meeshka…although Q.N. might be pleased by this too.)
wooos, Rusty, those are truly pawsome!!!! Nope, don’t think they’ll miss a couple. They’re done for the season- they won’t even be lookin’ for them till next winter! “Christmas in July” pawty at your place???
jack & moo
Way to go Rusty! Nice find! I’d like to have a few of those for my backyard… just to drop the temperature to 88 or so. [It’s predicted to be 101 here today… gasp!]
with love from the Bleu
Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston
Sibe, Snow Wizard, Heavy Machinery Operator…kind of Rusty’s dream job description!
A vote for Sarge’s. We cannot believe 1000 is TOMORROW! Readying the drum roll….
I think you would be find “borrowing” a couple of those for the summer and then returning them in the fall. They’ll never notice!
Adding our nomination again for Taysia Blue!
Holly & Khady
Rusty really thinks he could run all that equipment, doesn’t he? Such an investigator.
Rusty needs a tool belt to hang around all that equipment..
Joplin Humane Society.
And with a team to pull one of those like The Herd, it wouldn’t take much to get one home:)
Go Joplin, go!!!
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Rusty, we don’t think they’ll miss one or two (or three or four) of those! Go for it! Now you just have to hook it up to a sled and pull it home. Good luck! Maybe you can get some of the rest of The Herd to help out!!
Ooopps …. we forgot to toss our vote in for Charleston Animal Society.
Licks & Nibbles,
Kody & Nia
Awesome!!! We’ve never seen one of those things before!! The red team can haul one & the black & white team another one. Then you can have a snow party in the middle of summer & invite all you furry friends to come & play in the summer snow!!!!
Licks & Nibbles,
Kody & Nia
Australian Animal Protection Society!
Those are awesome!
I shudder at the thought of your next electricity bill. 😉
Rusty is so funny. That would be so cool to be able to make your own snow in the middle of summer. 🙂
Okay…I’m confused. Are we supposed to mention our rescue once a day or just once general? If once a day, I am mentioning Louisville Weimaraner Rescue again. 🙂
Can’t wait for post 1,000
Yes – one post per day per commenter – and you can mention the same or a different animal charity with each post.
Rusty has some might cool (hahaha pun intended) equipment there? How long does the snow stay??
Woofs and Kisses!
The Fiesty Three
One more vote for Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston, and please hold off the snow for a little bit…lol
Hamish & Sophie
Rusty seems like our kind of dog! We love reading about the pack,we live in Arden about 45 min from you and we enjoy your Blog so much. We two are all about adopting from rescues- We have three. Keep up the good posts and we will check in from time to time.
We vote for Joplin Animal
Big Fluffy Dog Rescue again, please!
Rusty is going to be a popular guy with all of the snow makers handy.
I have to admit to loving big eqipment too, I could watch that stuff go all day long.!
Lets have one more vote for the Joplin Humane Soc.
Stella, Jo and Zkhat
Um.. Rusty? Those generally work well when it is COLD. They also require a TON of water. Oh, and they’re kinda heavy. But you’ve got a pack of friends (hah!) so I’m sure you could haul away one. Tell the resort you’ll store it for them, and then conveniently “lose” it. They’ve got insurance…. Besides, they probably won’t miss a $100,000 piece of equipment… 🙂
Good luck and let us know how your plan goes!
BTW, we’re adding another vote for Paws and Stripes!
-Fiona and Abby the Hippobottomus
Now those would be some cooling fans. Those oughtta cool the huskies down.
Don’t forget the Oregon Greyhound Adoption. :o)))
Hey, Rusty! I think those snow machines are awesome! Were you able to drag any of them home with you? I’ll bet they wouldn’t miss them! Not for a while, anyway!
Check out the equipment Dave and I found! Ha rooooo!
The snow machines are still running in the high Rockies, at least they were until Saturday. Well, not the machines, but Mother Nature was still sending the snow during a rain in the low lands. No machines needed. A little cold spell delivered new snow. Now we have 80+ degree temps forcast for the next week. Over 120 inches of the white stuff is still up there, so watch out below, here comes the water.
We have to nominate Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR), our Alma mater.
Mogley G. Retriever
I don’t think they would miss one right? You could have snow all year long if you snagged that!
Gotta throw in my vote for Taysia Blue SHR for today! One more day and it is the 1000th post!
Great find! Now if you can find a kibble maker you could snow yourself in at chez herd and be set for life! Well, the hu-dad would have to adapt his food tastes a little 🙂
Also, another nom for Texas husky rescue.
Niko and wolfy
Rusty, if I win the lottery, I will buy one of those for you! It was made for you! I think you definitely need to take one of those back to your favorite tree and make the magic happen!
Of course we’re voting for Quad Cities again!
Rusty, the red team could easily haul one of those cool red machines home. Do it now! And add one more nomination for Tails of the Tundra Sibe Rescue.
–Rubi, Holly and Sprite (too hot for us–need snow!)
I’m not sure Rusty is prepared fur the elekhtrikh bill 😉
As fur today’s pawing…
How about that Sarge group in honour of The TH members!
oh bummin’….i won’t be around for your 1000th post. boo. hopefully i can check by iphone… but maybe too busy….
cheers herd! and Rusty: step away from the snow maker
Take it! Take it! Take it! If you don’t, it will be one of those things you regret for the rest of your life. Just make sure you leave no evidence, and blame the kitties in the neighborhood if anyone asks. Because we all know cats are always the culprets! ;->
And while you are at it, grab a couple for me. Thanks!
p.s. My vote is for the Joplin Humane Society.
