Hold That Door

November 26, 2022 |

Hu-Dad went out to the backyard for a few things without taking us with him. We know, it sounds crazy and we knew it was a mistake. Don’t worry, though, because Roscoe took care of things and opened the door. You should have heard Hu-Dad’s shouts of glee when he saw us coming.

I Spy A Deer Friend

November 25, 2022 |

Landon freezes in the middle of the yard. He swivels his head and stares into the woods. With a flap of the tail, he engages the springs in his paws and bounces across the backyard to the fence. With that famous bushy tail flapping in excitement, he peeks through the slats and lets us know he spots one of his deer friends.

If Only I Could Fly

November 22, 2022 |

Hu-Dad’s first reaction was amusement at Typhoon’s focus on the hawk soaring overhead, but then he thought the Little Prince might be studying it for possible lessons. With a nice set of wings and the ability to float overhead, he might be able to return to his rabbit-catching days of youth. Hu-Dad tried to tell him the story of Icarus, but the Little Curmudgeon never wants to hear about the dangers of hubris.

‘Tis The Season And He’s Watching

November 20, 2022 |

A mere five weeks until Christmas Day, so something about he’s watching and keeping a list and tracking who is a good boy. Landon knows Santa Claus has always been very good to him, so he knows he’s watching. Now the only task is to convince his bad boy brother Typhoon. Hu-Dad muttered good luck with that.

Squiggly Tail

November 19, 2022 |

Landon’s ridiculous tail has long been his furry claim to fame. When he’s happy (which is almost always), the bushy mass of fur flicks back and forth. When he’s trying to sneak around with some mischief, it swirls even faster. Now, he’s added the squiggly tail to his running repertoire. We can only salute his talent.

A Twig Breaks In The Woods

November 18, 2022 |

We were enjoying a beautiful, if cold, day in the backyard. Canines were sniffing and Hu-Dad was shivering, but no one was in a hurry. Then, a sound. A twig breaks in the woods. Typhoon searches the shadows for an approaching threat, but nothing is spotted. A few minutes pass and things return to normal. And, no, we have no clue what was out there.

Confronting The Enemy

November 15, 2022 |

Because of the social nature of Siberian Huskies, our reputation is that we’re more likely to consider a burglar someone new to play with than a threat. We share this photo today to prove, though, that we can be ferocious when needed. Landon confronted this pumpkin and demanded it not move. The pumpkin complied. What more can you ask for?

Suave Brown Eyes

November 13, 2022 |

We call him Frankie Suave because of calm, cool demeanor around Chez Herd, but don’t ever think he doesn’t know how to get his way. With that head tilt and the pool of brown eyes, he deploys his secret weapons to make the humans melt. Don’t worry, they did.

Walking With Nicole

November 12, 2022 |

We walk twice a day for a total of six miles. We do that every day. Every single day. And, yes, when we lived in Murrells Inlet, we walked during hurricane warnings (though never, of course, in the midst of the storm). So, yes, we received a couple of inches of much needed rain yesterday, but that didn’t deter us from our daily rounds. Can you smell the wet dog from there?

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Nicole, especially the people who have lost their lives or their homes. As always, we’re grateful to our first responders who put their own lives at risk every day to keep us safe. Our post today is a light-hearted look at our own dealings with the rain from the storm, but we don’t want to be disrespectful to those truly harmed.

Focused On The Pursuit

November 11, 2022 |

We’re quite serious about our favorite game—”tackle-wrestle-bitey face-body slam-tag you’re it.” The match goes on until Hu-Dad calls it, usually by shouting “Enough!” The indoor version is much shorter because Hu-Dad signals the end as soon as furniture, decorations, or humans become collateral damage. Outside, though, allows for a much longer match. Typhoon shows how much fun we have.

Monitoring The Neighborhood

November 10, 2022 |

Yes, Landon bounces and plays in the yard, but sometimes he needs to pause long enough to check in on the neighbors. The humans and canines are interesting enough, but this was the deer neighbors and they are very, very fascinating.
