Ok, we may not disappear under the grass in our field now that the hu-dad has finally cut it, but our giant tree still threatens to dwarf us. Look very carefully at the picture above – click on it to enlarge if need be. Yes, that is the red team in the lower left just beyond the shadow of the tree.
Today, we pause to say thank you to all of the service men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We are humbled at what you have given for us.
Our community is small and we were struck by an article that appeared in our regional newspaper yesterday – a story of the only native of our county who has been killed in Iraq. The story is but one representation of so many, but we wanted to share it. Mike Parrott – thank you.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
We are SO lucky and blessed in this country…we should be thankful every day.
Your tree is incredible…imagine the history that it has lived through!
Have a lovely day. oh, Sarge’s please
Beautiful post, you guys. We must never forget those who gave their lives for our nation!!!
Play bows,
Zim
PS: Ma Paw!
Thanks for the tree shot!
I’m putting my vote in for Taysia Blue to win again!

Your tree reminds my the mom of a “model” tree… because as an architect, she has built SO many models and on them, so many trees have been represented by generic models of the most beautiful trees imagined… like yours!
Yeah yeah yeah… but my favorite part is the tiny little portion of the picture capturing the red team, Wow. I do mean tiny!!!
Paw over my heart, we owe so much to those who have and also continue to serve our country. Thank you for the ways you are honoring them!!!

Nice tribute on this Memorial Day. I love your tree!
It’s so nice to see the tree in full bloom!
Hey, you’ve got grass…. We’ve got, ah, mud…
We’re remembering those who gave all today, as well. Mom’s got the all-weather flag flying in the intermittent snow flurries, and we’ll light a candle tonight for all the MIAs.

What a beautiful, awesome tree! Lovely! Good for your hu-dad on finally mowing! My human is headed out in a bit to mow our knee-high grass. I will just be napping. :->
What a wonderful Memorial Day tribute. We, too, are taking time to honor those who have died in service. Thanks for the newspaper link. It really humanizes the tragedy of war when we learn of the individuals who died.

We just love seeing “your tree” in all seasons…
That must have taken your Hu-Dad a long time to mow all that grass. And once again, amazing to see how enormous that tree really is.
Pausing here to remember all those who have served too.
Happy Memorial Day!

I was glad you started showing us a better perspective of your tree! I had always imagined it as much smaller until I started seeing pictures of you guys beside it. It’s easy to see why it’s your favorite!
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who have served today! May we always remember! 🙂
I see you guys…that is one beautiful tree and Happy Memorial Day!!

I hope you’ll join me, at 3pm local time, in a Moment of Remembrance

Wow, the red team gives a lot of perspective on the size of that tree. I need to say wow again! Wow! That’s one big tree.
Your mowing looks like quite a job! Have a wonderful Memorial Day.

I love the circular shape of your big tree. So beautiful!
We agree with you about remembering our military men and women on this day. Tonight we watched a great
film on PBS describing Germany taking over the European countries and at the end an officer was saying it was the bravery and determination of the American soldiers who defeated this enemy. It made me feel very proud.
Cheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
