Mobile Picnic Tables

Yes, we are out camping again this weekend (both The Herd and The Herd Annex).  When we first arrive at the campground, the first order of business is to set up the picket line and let all of the dogs  hang out while we get everything else arranged.

Picket Line Time

So we pulled into the campsites, spotted a picnic table, connected one end of the picket line to the picnic table and the other end to a stake in the ground.

See anything wrong with this table?

No the problem is not with the house shoes (despite the fact that the hu-dad really does wear them around the campsite – with his infamous camouflage socks).  That is a great guess, but that is not the problem with the table.  Look carefully at the concrete pad.  Notice the broken brackets (no, we did not break them)?  The ones designed to hold the table in place?  Guess what happens when you connect 8 Siberian Huskies to a picnic table the is not bolted down?  Correct – it moves.

Seems the hu-dad was setting things up around the campsite when he heard the picnic table being drug.  Amazingly he did NOT take pictures of that, but scrambled to move us to a different picnic table.

Tartok shows off the other picnic table in our campsite.

Funny, that one will not move.  Oh well, we will see what we can dream up Saturday.  While we are dreaming and scheming, please go visit some of our pals via the Blog Hop (and sign up yourself).

ha ha! I wish you had got a photo of it though, that is not something that would be seen very often on a camp site. lol

I am glad you found a more secure one, but that one does look like it was from the Flintstones. Good one Ammy! lol

That would just be the best new sled design – mushing while you eat.

That must have been pretty awesome. Can just imagine what was going on…. Need some table riggin’ anchor supplies just in case 🙂
So glad you got to go on another camping trip!!! We’re having truck (camper) engine things going on, so haven’t made it anywhere…either the batteries or something else. Will hope to tackle this project tomorrow, so we can get ready for a Thanksgiving trip.
    Have fun!
    Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,

Oh my…how could you have missed photos of the herd pulling around a picnic table? I can totally picture that now and that sounds SO darn funny.

    Second choice is a winner.
Maybe you could do picnic table races in stead of sleds?

  11. melF on November 20, 2010 at 1:47 pm

I just rolled when I read about the picnic table moving with all the huskies attached. How hilarious! I had not seen your blog before, but will stop by again. Thanks for a Saturday morning blog hop laugh!

BTW – Love the photo at the top of you blog. Beautiful dogs!

  12. Wyatt on November 20, 2010 at 1:05 pm

That looks like fun, well except for dragging the picnic table…BOL
One time my friend, tied her boxer to a downspout outside of the drycleaner, just for a second, to drop off her clothes and the dog pulled the downspout off the building and drug it down the street…OOOps!

Come on, you guys aren’t going to let a couple of hundred pounds of concrete stop The Herd, are you? Put some shoulder into it! And yes, we ARE approaching Herd status…took your hu-dad’s advice and bought OUR dad one of those cool leash belt thingies as a new dad gift!

  14. Houndstooth on November 20, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Ha ha ha! I wonder how far you could have gotten if that pesky cement hadn’t given you away. You all could take over the world working together, I suspect! Way to keep the Hu-Dad on his toes!

  15. Sage on November 20, 2010 at 11:04 am

Isn’t that what they’re suppose to do? I think table pulling can become a sport!!

  16. norwood on November 20, 2010 at 10:43 am

    TH and Annex

That’s right…. just cuz Hu-dad thinks he’s “vacationing” with his ridiculous camping slippers on… He still has too think on his feet.

This could be a whole new business line for you: catering by the Thundering Herd. Rent out a picnic table with a movable feast (thanks to a herd of huskies). It would be great for birthday parties, marriage proposals? Who wouldn’t love it?

  19. KB on November 20, 2010 at 9:28 am

What a dog sled team, except that the sled was a picnic table! Very funny story. I bet that the Herd is strong enough to break those brackets 🙂 “Herd-tested” could be an ad!

We were planning on camping this week… but life has gotten in the way. Please have enough fun for us too!

  20. Sam on November 20, 2010 at 8:43 am

I know you guys like to pull, as a breed, but picnic tables? That takes mushing to a whole new level.

  21. Sam on November 20, 2010 at 8:29 am

I bet other campers were shocked! I would have liked to have seen pictures of that!

I think they should have put some runners on the table!

  23. BrownDog CBR on November 20, 2010 at 7:23 am

    Hi Y’all,

  24. Sheba of West Africa on November 20, 2010 at 5:36 am

Camping with the whole herd, now that’s something for us! I’m not sure our humans will want to bring all the babies though, but we adults would have such a blast! where did you go from there?

  25. priscilla on November 20, 2010 at 2:30 am
