Landon’s Eighth Herdaversary

We wish Landon a happy, bouncy, howling eighth Herdaversary! The Bouncing Boom Boom arrived at Chez Herd on October 16, 2016, after a brief stay in jail.

No, really, jail. Actual human jail. Landon is a graduate of a program that teamed dogs with inmates in hopes they would both learn to each other. Since Landon is a master of escape, we know what the inmate taught him. We have no idea what Landon taught the inmate.

Though it might have been yodeling. Quiet and Landon don’t really go together. Actually, when Landon is quiet, Hu-Dad goes searching for him because it’s usually a sign of mischief. Otherwise, you hear yodels, squeaks, squeals, and squawks wherever he goes.

Anyone who has ever seen the Herd walking knows Landon’s other great trait – he’s a canine radar. He spins and twists during our walks, always searching for the sights and sounds of other animals, especially humans. When he spots them, the yodels, squeaks, squeals, and squawks often follow.

Inside the house and around the yard, walking is the last thing Landon does. He bounces, flies, and glides. It’s quite common to see him pogo his furry self through a room (yes, with a yodel, squeak, squeal, or squawk – or all four).

So we wish a very Happy Eighth Herdaversary to Landon “Boom Boom.” May he bounce, yodel, squeak, squeal, and squawk many more years at Chez Herd.

Happy 8th Herdaversary, Landon! You put the Boom Boom into my heart… (I always think of him when that song hits my play list)

Wasn’t he the one that ate (eats) paper?? And managed to get the bottom of his crate pushed completely outside of his crate… while he was still in the crate?? So many characters, so many shenanigans!

    • The Thundering Herd on October 16, 2024 at 6:21 pm

Typhoon loved to shred paper and leave it in little pyramids. Quite the crazy little rascal.

But, yes, Landon could push the floor of his crate out of the slot. He could even fit his body through the slot once the crate bottom was gone. To this day, there is a 3/4 inch piece of plywood in the bottom of his crate to prevent such shenanigans.

The image of Landon with all four feet off the ground immediately came to mind. He’s been a great addition to the herd.

Happy Herdaversary! That time has passed so quickly. Love seeing you again.

I so miss the typical Husky vocalizations. When I adopted five and a half year ago Rambo, it was a month after the Rescue/Sanctuary had sent him to a Veterinary Hospital out of state to save his leg and they did a bone graph and put in a plate and screws. He does not talk. He only barks if he is playing with another dog. He is so sweet and a lap dog, but he is so quiet, I really miss their normal talking.

Helene (To The Tune of Jolene by Dolly Parton

September 25, 2024

As soon-to-be Hurricane Helene grows in the gulf, it seemed appropriate to parody the classic song “Jolene” by Dolly Parton.

P.S. - When Hu-Dad wrote this post, he had no idea how bad Helene would be.
