Our friends over at Fiesty Three tagged us in one of those photo games where you pick a certain picture in a certain folder. Since we use iPhoto, we have always struggled with those games because iPhoto does not exactly use folders. But, in this case, the folder was the FIRST folder and the tenth picture. So we went to our first EVENT and picked the tenth picture. We really like that because our first event in iPhoto is where we store all of our old scanned photographs, so this becomes a trip down memory lane. Here is the tenth photo:
We love this picture for so many reasons. Nikita was quite the Diva and was very taken aback when we asked her to play mother to Natasha. After some struggles, she became quite the maternal figure to Natasha. Unfortunately, Nikita proceeded to teach her all the Evil Ways of the Siberian. In fact, Queen Natasha the Evil would never have been so Evil had it not been for the excellent mentoring by Nikita. In this picture, the two of them are sitting at our front door looking out at the freshly fallen snow in the winter of 2004-2005.
The above is a far more typical picture – Princess Natasha working on Nikita’s nerves. One of the classic moments I will never forget was when Natasha was 10-12 weeks old. She thought of Nikita as her hero (that never really changed right up until Nikita’s passing). I stepped out into the yard and whistled for Nikita. She came trotting up and Natasha was hanging from her neck, mouth clamped on Nikita’s neck and her little back paws just barely brushing the ground. Nikita did not look thrilled to have this particular pendant dangling from her neck.
All of us have had that particular dog that will forever be remember as special. Nikita is that dog for me. If you would like to read more about her, please check out her page (click dogs at the top and then select Nikita or just go here) or read one of my favorite stories about her here or here.
Since we are Siberians, we totally forget the rules of this game, but here is my challenge to all of my readers. Pick a special picture of dog that is no longer here with us and share a story. Please let us know when you do so we can go read.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Great shot and memories!!
I am looking forward to reading some of the others stories about their rainbow bridge pups!

Memories are forever
I have been trying to do just that lately. But it’s a hard story to tell. One day soon….
Beautiful story and precious photos. Right now, I’m taking a cue from my dogs and living right in the moment with my beloved, nearly 12 year old, once-in-a-lifetime girl, there-will-never-be-another, Kiva. And my sweet baby, just mine for a little over a year, Service Puppy Ruby. Thankfully, we have thousands of photos of both of them that we can enjoy for many years to come. 🙂
Wish i could rise to your photo challenge, but Dante’s my first dog and well, he’s still here. Though, i do dread the day when “it’s time” …
I love your story and knowing more about where the Queen learned her ways. I’ll think about what story to use from my past pack.
What a great set of photos and a wonderful story to go along with it. We see the same thing happening here between Thunder and Ciara. Ciara does a great job of hanging on to TD’s neck too. Mom is quite thankful that TD has stopped hanging on to Ciara’s:)
Woos, Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

That’s too funny about Natasha dragging along fastened onto Nikita’s neck! I do the same thing with the photo tags and iPhoto, except I always go backwards from the last event so that the pictures keep changing.
What a great story, and a great idea! We’ll get mom to work on this one to post sometime next week. We love your reminisces about Nikita, she sounds like an unforgettable kinda girl!
I love the story, and what a fun idea to try.
Nikita sounds like my kind of girl! Your story was wonderful and made our mom’s eyes all wet. We’ll try to do this – in the meantime, we’ve LOVED the Haik-woo you’ve written in our comments! 🙂

I really enjoyed the stories about Nikita from the links. She was definitely a character. It seems like the challenging ones are often the most special. I don’t have any past dogs to share about since Cabana is our first–but maybe I’ll participate by sharing about our cat.
Nikita sounds like a wonderful dog. That is such a sweet photo of them looking out at the snow!
I can just picture the puppy pendant! I didn’t realize you’d had Natasha from puppyhood. We can certainly play the photo tag game and it will go along nicely with your challenge. That will probably be Tuesday’s post for us. Nikita and Natasha are both beautiful!
Great pic! Thanks for sharing the story with us.
