Spring is fully upon us (so, of course, we have snow predicted Saturday) and our own restless Roscoe is rousting rabbits from our field.
Roscoe is experiencing his first spring here at Chez Herd and discovering the explosion of rabbits in the field outside the perimeter of Sibe Quentin. We can often spot a dozen or more rabbits happily munching away on the grass out there.
Of course, the rabbits have to keep an eye out because their predators aren’t just the canines of The Herd. Birds of prey, coyote and bobcat all love to hunt them so we can have a Wild Kingdom in the field some days.
And, yes, the Hu-Dad does need to get out a mow the dog lot. He claims he never has to mow before May, but the grass is telling him something different.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?

Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.

At 15, Juno doesn’t chase anyone anymore. Both good and not so much, just because she’s older. Now we have a resident rabbit who hops right past her and she sits and watches her. (I love Roscoe’s horse pose in frame three.)
For 17 years my boy Danny was annoyed by the rascally rabbits, now it your turn Roscoe. Made me laugh when I saw the way he also looked at the rascals.
Sorry Hu-Dad-it looks like you will have mow a little early this year. Roscoe is telling you that by the fence he NEEDS to TRY and catch at least one pesky rabbit who would dare to come inside and munch that lovely grass! I am SO happy Roscoe is enjoying his first spring at Chez Herd!
