Qannik Update And A Family Walk

Today’s post shares a Qannik update from our vet visit yesterday as well as some photographs from last night’s family walk.

The junior team out for an evening stroll & a Qannik update

The junior team out for an evening stroll

Canines add so much happiness to human lives that we hate to focus on the fact that dogs’ lives are just too short. Unfortunately, we determined through yesterday’s vet visit that Qannik has a splenic mass. After reviewing our options, we have decided on a course of care focused on comfort and quality of life. The reality is that our time with the Q-Tip is very short, but he is enjoying lots of porch time, mountain breezes, snooter kisses, belly scratches and ear rubs. His appetite is solid and he is moving about the yard on his own. When he is ready for the next adventure, he will let us know.

Smile through the tears.

Smile through the tears.

We decided to fill today’s post with pictures from our Junior Team walk last night because they highlight what is so important in life – enjoying the simple, every day, mundane activities that are the foundation of all of our memories. So go have fun and savor the simple things.

Aren't walks grand?

P.S. – Hu-Dad says he appreciates all of the notes, messages and social media comments that have come his way since we received the news. We hope you understand that he is not taking the time to respond to them right now. Just know we really, sincerely appreciate every kind word and thought.

So sad to hear of Q-tips’ limited time with your family and the online family. He has been blessed with a wonderful loving human family and 4-legged family. Your family is in our home everyday and our hearts are heavy with the sad news. Enjoy the time with him until he is ready. Sending love and hugs to everyone. xoxo

I think we all feel a bit like extended family members having followed the herd for a variety of years. We celebrate the silliness, the road trips, walks and the health battles won. We also share the emotions of times like these on the hard road of life, having gone through it ourselves. Our hearts are with you.

So sorry to learn about beautiful Q-tip’s problem. He is blessed to have spent so much time with you and to have been so loved and cared for. When the time comes when he lets you know it is time to say good-bye, just remember all the good times and know he will always be with you in your heart along with the others that have gone before. The worse part of loving a dog is saying good-bye, but all the memories and all the good times make it worthwhile. Sending good wishes for you, your family and all members of the Thundering Herd, especially handsome Q-tip.

My lab, Chinook will be 12 on September 28th. She has slowed down a lot this last 6 months. Limping a bit, the lumps and just getting older. I watch to make sure she has a quality of life without much pain but know she also will let me know. Breaks our hearts, but they fill so much of that heart. One day at time here, too. Take care.

Puppies are adorable, but senior dogs are special beyond words. Enjoy each day, each hour, each minute that you have remaining with Q.

So sorry to hear this. Enjoy each precious moment you have left (I know you will). Dogs are gifts and they just don’t last long enough.

Enjoy the time with them now and it will be the memories and all the neat stories and pictures that will get you through the sad times. It is hard when our dogs have such short lives but we are so much better because of the time we spend with our dogs in our lives. My heart is full of big pawprints from past dogs and present dogs and always will be because I will never not have a dog or two in my life.

Hu-Dad and family-my heart is sad about the news about Q-Tip but know he has had a GREAT life with you and will continue to do so until he tells you otherwise. I so agree with Denise’s comment above that there is so much love-which lives forever. My day is brightened because of the posts of The Thundering Herd each morning.

Mom ‘n Ebby say: Lots and lots of hugs ‘n”ucky doggy kisses” for Qannik from both me ‘n Ebby, and prayers that he is able to enjoy whatever time the good Lord sees fit to give him, without any suffering. And hugz for the rest of the Herd as well.
