Frankie started blowing coat this week, so Hu-Dad brought out the big guns for this week’s Film Friday – Hair Today Gone Tomorrow.
Several years ago, as Hu-Dad was struggling to brush us out with a traditional rake brush, a friend suggested he try Metrovac Air Force Commander. If you go to dog shows, you will see a number of these in use preparing freshly shampooed dogs for the ring. In our case, however, we find it works quite effectively dry – no pre-washing needed. Our proof is in this week’s Film Friday.

With the commercial out of the way, let’s set up Film Friday. Over this past weekend, Frankie decided it was time to blow coat. Siberian Huskies don’t shed – we blow coat – an incredible explosion of fur. Typically, we do that twice a year. Hu-Dad jokes that with six of us, we each pick two different months so that he has year round coat blowing! Yes, one of the many ways we make his life so entertaining.
Normally, this is the point we suggest you sit back, relax and watch Film Friday. In this case, we highly recommend you put on goggles first. You will understand when we start the film. (And think how cool it would be if Hu-Dad could film in 3D!)

Wings of Doom

Looks like he enjoyed it even with the tickling sensation. Mine used to squeal with the brush/comb; sensitive skin. Blowing is the only way to go. I’ve found my pet’s fur in the bird nests around the property.
I was wondering how long does it take to actually do a full blow out? Do any of your dogs dislike or refuse to be blown? I have two shepherds and a Tibetan Mastiff … coat blowing is out of control this year for some reason and I’m seriously thinking of getting this. My question is because my oldest male shepherd has some medical issues and stressors can cause some huge problems. But he’s a Czech so his coat is bad (the Tibetan is the worst but they only blow once a year).
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
The unedited video of Frankie’s blow out ran 7 minutes and 41 seconds, so that let’s you know how fast the hair removal process is.
Most of us tolerate the blower like Frankie. We will sit still for 5-10 minutes and then are done.
The exception is Typhoon who thinks the machine is pure evil. At the mere sight of it, he disappears. Unfortunately, he also thinks brushes are evil. Well, for that matter, he doesn’t like being touched except for a few minutes a day – and then only on his terms.
Cheoah loves it the best. She will lay in Hu-Dad’s lap and go to sleep during the process.
