Wildfire Update – We Are Safe And Smoky

Many of you have asked how we are doing with all of the wildfires in our region. The short wildfire update is simple – safe and smoky.

As the above map shows, we are sitting right smack in the middle of a stretch of wildfires covering Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, and North and South Carolina. And this map only shows the big fires, not the dozens of smaller fires. The air throughout our region is thick with smoke.

Many people in our area have been evacuated from their homes. Living in the mountains, we always have an evacuation plan and can be gone quickly if needed. Fortunately for us, we are safe for now with no major fires threatening us.

The bad news is that no significant rain is in the long-range forecast, so we have little hope the situation will get much better until we get some rain or, better, a thick covering of snow.

No worries - Chief of Security Kiska is monitoring our safety.

We are thankful for the thousands of firefighters from across the nation that are currently battling these blazes. Our thoughts are with them for their safety and success.

Mom ‘n Ebby say: First the rain storms, then the fires — kinda makes you wonder ………… Stay safe, hu-Dad, and The Herd. Hopefully the snow will come soon, and help settle things down, including “Siber anxiety” Prayers for everyone in Maggie Valley.

I was wondering myself. I’ve got friends and coworkers in Knoxville that are complaining about the same. Even up here in Johnson City it is smoky. But oddly enough, in Bristol I haven’t seen or smelled any of it. It is like there’s a giant barrier. It isn’t supposed to rain this week…so odds are it’ll be a down pour 😛

    Stay safe!

The smoke must keep the kids in longer than they’d like, I imagine.
