Don’t Let Fame Go To Your Head

Hu-Dad has always joked he expected Typhoon’s fame to lead to his face plastered everywhere – only with the word WANTED above it.

Cover Model!

Yes, yes, Typhoon is featured on the front page of the Pet Gazette for Western North Carolina. He asked Hu-Dad to post it prominently inside Chez Herd so that every other pup could see it and be in awe.

It is like looking in a mirror.

It is like looking in a mirror.

We will report, however, that not every member of The Herd is quite as impressed as Typhoon would like.

Oh, please!

Oh, please!

If you open that edition (and you can download it through this link if you are not local), you will note on page 10 and 11 that there are articles about WinterFest Smoky Style and Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd.

Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd is starting up any day now on our blog, so watch for the announcements. The money raised will benefit Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation – our favorite local all-breed animal rescue!

We will be at the Maggie Valley (North Carolina) Festival Grounds on February 27 for WinterFest Smoky Style. Dog lovers will love the opportunity to interact with dog mushing teams and their mushers, international weight pull competitions, and demonstrations from some amazing Law Enforcement K-9’s. There will also be musical performances, Timbersports, and exhibitions by our friends of the Cherokee Nation. We are also thrilled that a local movie theater – The Strand at 38 Main – is going to be showing The Great Alone – a movie about mushing legend Lance Mackey. There is even a breakfast Sunday morning at the horse ranch that we are forever showing pictures of on our blog! All of the details can be found on the WinterFest Smoky Style website (you can sign up there for their newsletter to keep up to date on all of the festival activities). We hope that many of you schedule a weekend getaway and come visit us February 26-28 as we would love to meet you.

And, finally, we are also going to Lake Junaluska February 6 for the Haywood Waterways Polar Plunge, which raises money for a very creative youth education program called Kids in the Creek – an opportunity for every eighth grader in the area to spend a day in our rivers learning first hand about the environment. And, no, we are not plunging – just hanging around looking cute. It is a tough job.

Yes, yes, yes – we are busy little dogs. We are, after all, a working breed!

Wow, I really wish we could visit both festivals, but our health just will not allow any travel these days. So, please, Heard, take lots and lots of pics so we can be there in spirit! Grand Pa went to Carson Newman which is just over the mountain from you all and Tenn and the Caroline’s are one of the prettiest parts of God ‘s beautiful creation. It was so heartbreaking on one of our last visits to see the sign on a beautiful little creek that warned folks not to drink the water because it’s polluted. Keep up the good work, you all & may the good Lord bless you real good!
