Shake Down

When we heard we were going on a shake down this weekend, we all started practicing. But then the Hu-dad explained not that kind of shake down.

camping weekend

Camping weekend!

Yes, the Hu-dad bought us a new toy – a new RV – and this was the first weekend we have been able to take it out. An RV shake-down is a weekend where you test everything and make sure it all works.

walking times

Of course, we let the Hu-dad have periodic breaks by walking us around the park.

You may be wondering why we got a new RV and the answer is simple – us. That is why we refer to our RV as an S-RV – a Siberian Recreational Vehicle.

Yes, yes, this RV had a feature that none of our previous RV’s had and it is a feature that is perfect to a herd of Siberian Huskies. In our other RV’s, Hu-dad always had to convert some space – remove a couch, convert bunk beds, etc. – in order to create safe spaces for us. This new S-RV has a new room just for us.

Herd living room

The Herd living room – with our own TV, radio, feed and supply storage, etc. Even cooler, that wall in the back let’s down to form our own personal deck.

So how did the shake down go? So far, a couple of minor mechanical issues which Hu-dad was able to fix quickly. We also have a couple of minor items that the dealer will need to fix.

But we did have one big, huge, critical issue. In transferring all of the gear from the old RV to the new RV, the Hu-dad forgot one thing. Ok, specifically, six things. Our food bowls.

Waiting on dinner. Notice the collapsible water bowls.

Don’t worry. Hu-dad recognized the severity of the situation and our dinner was still served on time.

Old S-RV had engine issues too. Nice set up for the pups.

Crates need securing. Friend travels with stacked crates in a similar, smaller RV. Was hit by another car avoiding a deer. Impact and sudden stop sent crates tumbling. Dogs all loose, one with a broken leg that was in a top crate. All crates damaged. RV was mostly fine. Accidents can happen no matter how careful you are.

How do you get the huskies into the 2nd level of crates? Do you have to lift them up?

That Hu-Dad… What a wonderful surprise! Our very own S-RV room, complete with deck! We are one special Herd. And, Hu-Dad, we forgive you for forgetting our food bowls.
