Good Monday Morning, Dear Readers. Since Monday is a traditional back to work day, we wanted to give you a quick technical update on the website.
Woo! You really know how to excite people on a Monday, hu-dad.
You probably remember that we had a short survey about a week ago. We wanted to share the results with you. One hundred fifty-three (153) readers responded to the poll. An amazing 32 (21%) of those respondents said that they had had a problem accessing our website at least once in the previous seven days. In the comments, we were told that our daily email service had stopped notifying readers of new posts, that our website could be slow, and so on.
Holy cow. We knew we were having issues. But that really got our attention.
We went to work. Unfortunately, the traffic to our website had just become too much for the usual shared hosting solution. And to make things more challenging, most of our readers check in with us at the beginning of the work day (we are so glad to be a part of productivity challenges in the workplace!) putting most of our daily server load in a fairly narrow window of time.
To gain better control, we have moved the website to our own VPS! That will give us more control over managing technical issues. (And, amusingly, a greater chance of really screwing things up!).
With those changes, we also think we have our daily email service back and working (you can sign up for it on the upper left of the website).
Nothing is ever perfect and we are sure there will be issues from time to time, but at least now we have only ourselves to blame if the website blows up. And you know that we Siberian Huskies are masters at the destruction!

As always, we appreciate your feedback and patience. Hopefully we can just focus on posts about Siberian games and stop talking about technical issues.

Happy Belated Birthday from your fans in New York!
I’m really behind. Being gone for a week made it a lot harder to catch up than I thought. Anyway, I have had trouble accessing the site before and I usually read it early in the morning, before I go to work (although today is an exception). Normally, the slowest lag is after I comment.
On a side note, I had a huge hit in my email subscriber list thanks to the new “improvemets” to Yahoo mail. It’s a problem both if you’re sending your subscriber emails out from a Yahoo account or if you are receiving it to a Yahoo account. I lost 20% of my subscribers to this in less than a week. *sigh*

Mom sez: Looks like the Herd is hard at work, making sure everything is working well with the new system. By the way, the “Survey” you mentioned, I didn’t know anything about it. I know there were a few days in the past couple of weeks that I missed receiving the daily blog, so that may have been one of those days.
