Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?

Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.

Oh the good ole days of snow!
Good to see the snow and the members of the Herd who have crossed the Rainbow bridge!!
Looking forward to some snow this winter. If we get as much snow as rain this year it will be up to the rooftop. Husky heaven for sure. Love the old pictures.
On these Way Back Wednesdays it so great to see some of the Herd who have passed on to Rainbow Bridge. Of course seeing a YOUNG Typhoon and Frankie are so wonderful also! I think SNOW is one of the things a husky loves the BEST!!!
Yay for a snow day! Zoe spends twice as much time outside on snow days. Or rather, twice as many trips outside just to sniff the cold clean air or bury her nose in the snow.

One of my Furbabys I swear is part Husky. She love, love, loves the snow and burrows her nose through it and rolls around in it. her name is Gracie Anne and was a rescue~ I saw a furbaby in a Movie with Cuba Gooding jr. It is called Snow Dogs )2002). Gracie’s ears flop down and in that Movie they have one Husky or part Husky that is sitting with her owner in a restaurant and that furkid looks just like my Gracie. Gracie is a blend of Black and tan and has a thick undercoat which is actually shedding right now around her neck ( a lot of grey undercoat with some black) her outer coat is soft and smooth. Is there any way to see if she really is part Siberian Husky? Just curious 🙂
The only way we know for sure is one of those genetic tests for dogs, but we have never done one.
The Thundering Herd has become my Daily Smile maker 🙂 My Furbabys all Love snow but our back yard is just not as Large as the Herds! My furbabys would Love a giant yard 🙂
I’m just curious, but is Kiska a mix, or are there different varieties of Huskies? I was just wondering about how the difference in coats. With collies we have smooth coated and rough coated, so I was wondering if Huskies had different names for the shorter coat and the longer coated variety.
Kiska is, to the best of our knowledge, all Siberian Husky, though we have no way to know that for sure. She was found as a stray on the streets, picked up by Animal Control, and rescued by a terrific rescue in Tennessee.
Her coat is best described as a Wooly Coat (though you will see many Sibes with much longer Wooly Coats), which is caused genetically. The coat is not ideal for a Sibe for a number of reasons (harder to maintain, gets lots of tangles, attracts those obnoxious ice balls in the winter, and doesn’t insulate as well as a more natural Siberian coat), but it does give her a striking beauty.
Mom sez: “Happy Herd”, snow at last (again). Somebody’s missing, though. Frankie!!!! Where’s Frankie?
Have no fear. Frankie was having so much fun in the snow that all of the pictures of him were just a blur of black against the white.

I fall more in love with them everyday. And Cheoah’s brings tears to my eyes missing my baby boy Rusty …. I know he’s up at the Rainbow Bridge playing tummy deep in his beloved snow. 🙂
