Bath Time

The indignities.  For young pups out there, you absolutely need to cover your eyes for this post.  It is degrading, inhumane, and disgusting.  Yep, we have been abused.  We received baths.

Rusty in total shock at the horror

We know, we know.  It is shocking and horrifying.  And when you hear the human’s logic, this senseless tragedy will make even less sense.  Their first piece of logic was that we were already wet.  You see, we had been hiking in the rain.  Even Khyra noted that she caught a whiff of wet dog.  One kid approached the Jeep to see the dogs and exclaimed to his father, “Dad, they stink.”  (Sadly, we are not making that up)  If we ever see that kid again, . . .

Qannik soaking the water into that thick coat

But the second piece of logic is even more astounding.  Apparently, we are going to meet some Karen Ramstead of North Wapiti Kennels who supposedly knows something about Siberian Huskies.  Something about she has run 4 Iditarods with an all Siberian Husky Team and has some 70 or 80 Siberian Huskies.  Whatever.

But get this – we are not even going to get to meet her.  The humans are.  What?????

Siberian Husky Assist , which is the rescue that Kodiak came from, is hold a Working Dog Symposium this Saturday, May 30, in Bristol, Tennessee, and Karen Ramstead will be one of the guest speakers.  Other guest speakers will be Dr. Al Townsend (a V-E-T!) who received the Golden Stethoscope Award for contributions above and beyond the call of duty in bringing veterinary care to the dogs of the Iditarod.  There will be events on personal protection dogs (not of any interest to Siberians), weight pulling, and hunting dogs.

But get this – dogs not a part of the actual event are not allowed in the building.  But we are working dogs!  Ok, a working breed, but kind of laid back, lazy, non-working dogs, but you get our point.  So apparently we get to stay in the S-RV in air conditioned comfort while the humans go inside.  Ok, maybe that is not so bad, but why baths?

Kiska shakes her head at the wonder of it all

Anyway, if you are anywhere close, you should come down for a spectacular event.  That is, if you are human and all.  We know of humans that are coming from a very long ways away.  And it is for a good cause and supports a fantastic Siberian Husky rescue group, so we guess we will forgive our humans for abandoning us in the S-RV.  We are wondering what the special make-up supper meal will be that evening in the campground after our extra special forgiveness hike?

But will you see a dog work this hard to get water out of her coat?

OH NO! I thought I had it bad with the brushing, but baths are much worse!!! I hope you pups are ok!

And how can the humans leave you all behind? That is so unfair! They better take you on an extra special hike!

This whole dog ban at the conference sounds like a big bummer! I personally think that the whole conference should just consist of each of your running around on stage, sleeping and eating. Wouldn’t that be nice? How did Cheoah do with the bath? Is she a bath lover like me?

Baths…. are not nice are they?. We love getting wet like in the sea type of wet but baths are no fun at all.

What you need to do is what we do… shake right near the humans…hehe

I really do think that making a break for it in the S-RV while the humans are inside is the best plan. I’m pretty sure Queen Natasha knows how to drive.

Why is it that humans think that because THEY smell bad and need bath’s, that WE need them too? I’ll just never understand that.

I think it’s great your humans get to meet Karen!!! My mom got to meet Martin Buser along with Summi’s mom back in April, so we understand the excitement. I sure hope Karen comes out to meet you!!

  6. Aja and Flurry on May 26, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Oh, that is horrible. Over here Aja and I just rub the wet dog smell all over the furniture and the humom uses Febreeze to get it out. If she washed us everytime we got the wet dog smell from walking we wouldn’t have any hair left and a naked husky just isn’t a pretty thing. Of course, I was pretty naked, but I am special.

    Woo,

BATHS??? You poor, poor pups! And not even getting to meet the person that you’re getting the baths for? Surely Queen Natasha can come up with some suitable punishment

I would think that your humans would want to smell like wet husky. Maybe it would get Karen’s attention.

Oh, no! Oh, NO! Khyra warned me and all but…. OH, the HORROR of it all!
I wonder if there’s anyone you can call about this b-a-t-h thing. It’s just not RIGHT!
And seriously, I don’t get going to this thing without you guys. It just doesn’t make sense. You don’t think your bipeds got it wrong, do you?
    Hrumph.
    Love,
    Ammy
PS: Are you guys OK? Seriously? I don’t know that there’s room for all of you to hide under my dining room table, but since you’re such good friends, I’d be willing to let you try. No one would EVER know you were under there!

Bath: You’ll get over it, guys!

To DK: Bobbie Burns wrote the lines about mice and men and John Steinbeck used them for the title of his famous book.Sorry, I just gotta say it.

the horror of it all – the abuse – you need to call someone for help – okay maybe not – it isnt too bad i use to get a bath everyday for a long time i had issues and needed to be bathed in a special shampoo – but i am better now but still get a bath every week – it isnt too bad. Sweetie hates the bath but loves the water go figure and MJ TAKES a bath everyday – he goes into the shower with mommy she keeps trying to kick him out but it doesnt work

Baths? For the humans to go somewhere and leave you behind in you boat on wheels? Sigh, humans….
What a great thing to go to, I hope your humans find out some interesting things about dogs, like feed us only beef and chicken and fish, and none of that kibble stuff. and give you more walkies and toys and NO BATHS!

Oh, we can’t help but wonder if the wonderful Karen won’t make a special trip to the vehicle to meet you – she would be crazy not to do that – we know we would.
