Introducing Sally

As we have been teasing on our Facebook and Instagram pages, we have a new member of The Herd. Please join us in welcoming Sally to Chez Herd.

Hello, Herd Fans. I'm Sally.
Hello, Herd Fans. I’m Sally.

Yes, Sally thinks that is a beautiful photogenic smile that everyone should fall in love with. She, however, thinks Hu-Dad shouldn’t share some of the outtakes. But, Hu-Dad thinks outtakes are fun.

What do you mean this is a goofy smile?

Yes, she is something of a ham. Even when Hu-Dad suggested that we capture a photo of her looking majestic in the backyard.

Sally's early photo
Are you going to point that camera at me often?

Sally came to us from Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue in Fletcher, NC (just outside of Asheville). The terrific team worked to get her out of a shelter, spayed, and treated for some skin issues. Only once she was well on the way to recovery did they begin to seek a good home for her, so she has been in rescue for a few months. The team at Charlie’s became quite attached to her.

The humans went to the rescue a few times to meet Sally. Best guess is her age is about six or seven years old, which was a plus in their books.

Once they thought she would be a good fit, each of us visited and spent some time with her. Everyone approved. Frankie, despite his 15 years, even went into play bows with her.

The rescue was equally cautious in checking out Sally’s future home, something that impresses us. Once everyone agreed, Sally moved to Chez Herd on Saturday, December 28—just in time for the New Year.

The first week has flown by with lots of long walks with her brothers, playing in the backyard, and learning Chez Herd. To everyone’s amazement (and Hu-Dad’s great pleasure), she sleeps through the night without a peep. She’s had one accident in the house, but, hey, newbies need some time to figure such things out.

She’s even realized that Hu-Dad needs to work a few hours each morning and his productivity goes way up if you don’t chirp the whole time. That might have taken a day or two to resolve, but Sally has now adopted more subtle ways to suggest to Hu-Dad he’s worked long enough.

Will the Hu-Dad stop working if I stare at him?

As for the canines, the boys needed a girl. Someone, after all, needs to organize things around here. Roscoe is totally enamored with her and they appear be building quite the friendship. As Sally slowly gets more free time around the house, we’ll see who buddies up.

raccoon
Have you mentioned my raccoon?

The most unusual thing for Hu-Dad is that Sally likes toys. The rest of the Herd either has no interest in toys or way too much interest (i.e., destroys them in record time). Sally loves her raccoon which has amazingly survived the entire week… so far. That’s somewhat amazing considering how far it gets slung during Silly Sally moments.

Which brings us to the most important question. Nicknames. Has Sally earned any yet?

The obvious one, Mustang Sally, came into play early. And, yes, that says as much about Hu-Dad’s age and musical taste as it does about Sally.

She’s also been referred to quite a number of times as the Little Diva. She’s all of 45 pounds, but can be quite vocal when she wants something. That’s when that chirping comes into play.

Welcome Sally. We look forward to you settling into your new home.

    Welcome, Sally,
Pretty girl: you struck gold! You could not have landed anywhere that would be better. The Herd will be a good fit, and the humans rock, ie., they totally understand Sibes and will treat you like the royalty you are!
Woo-wishes for a great life: happy paws!

Welcome Sally. Could not be a better place to live out your Siberian years. Did not realize that Frankie was already 15. Hoping that you are not planning ahead to fill a hole so soon. Wondering if Sally will channel the old Queen to help manage the boys. Need video if not at least audio of what will be the all to common “Chirp” 🙂

Frankie continues to do well despite his advanced age. We had taken quite a bit of time after losing Typhoon before we were ready to add another. Sally is fitting in well and had a little of Typhoon’s diva nature.

Congratulations. It will be interesting to see who Sally (little diva) pairs up with. Also excited to see how things change with her around.

  30. Lisa Becker on January 4, 2025 at 8:05 am

Sally looks like an absolute sweetheart! You can see a great big personality there in those pictures. And this is great for everyone….spices up the household, keeps the boys on their toes and gives her the great home she deserves. Sally looks like a fantastic romp partner. I have a feeling you are all going to be very busy people (four-legged and two-legged) and we may be treated to some hilarious photos too. Congratulations sweet girl and family!!
PS. We are on our sixth and seventh huskies currently and over the past 46 years of being owned by them every single one has absolutely loved plush toys. The only casualties have been the result of an overage of joy and exuberance. Love the look on Sally’s face with her raccoon. ATTACK!!!!
