Frankie had a not so suave Monday, though things certainly turned out much better than we first feared. Details in today’s story.
Frankie has long had a fatty mass on his side which didn’t concern anyone much. We had even had it tested for the Big C just to be sure, but the results were fine.
Sunday evening, it swelled and became very irritated. A trip to the vet revealed an infection. The area needed to be shaved, drained (and no one wants to see pictures of that—trust us), cleaned, and treated. The doc prescribed antibiotics and the dreaded cone of shame. Hu-Dad promises that this cone is much more comfortable than the old-fashion kind.
Once the infection is controlled (in about two weeks), more tests will rule out the Big C, but the vet felt fairly confident that we don’t need to worry about that. We will all breathe a sigh of relief when we know for sure.
As for the not-so-suave look Frankie is giving, he says the hot and humid weather is bad enough, but having to wear a life vest is just a wee bit much. Fortunately, like most things, Frankie just accepts it and moves on. Well, except for the occasional dirty look shot in Hu-Dad’s direction.

Hurricane Hugo Memories
September 21, 2024
Thirty-five years ago, a massive storm hammered our region and left a path of destruction, leaving us with Hurricane Hugo memories.
Poor sweet Frankie! Hang out by the a/c til the cone comes off!
Poor Frankie /huggles
Poor Frankie! It does look more comfortable than the old cone but can’t be much fun in this hot and humid weather. Hang in there, Frankie! Hope you’re feeling better soon and praying for good test results.
R&R and of course a couple of extra special treats for Frankie Suave!! Get well soon 😘🤗
He looks so handsome
Sending hugs and love to Frankie Suave. And Frankie you look very stylish with the “life preserver.”
Oh, Frankie! Fingers and paws are crossed that all test results will show you are healthy. I hate when those masses misbehave like that and scare all the people involved. Be thankful that this works instead of the cone of shame – our husky’s snout is too long for that to be effective – we had to get a soft sided cone of shame (for night time so everyone doesn’t wake up when the doggie moves) and the old-fashioned one during the day. Which he uses to deliberately run into walls, etc. until it breaks into pieces.
Always scary with older dogs. We went through this with Zappa several times. Prayers it’s not the big C. You’re in good hands Frankie. We love you.
I know Frankie’s at that age where things are scary. Those lipomas are so common in older dogs and fortunately, they’re mostly benign. I too, have used the donut (and t-shirts,) versus a cone. So much more comfy. Sending love to your sweet boy.
Poor Frankie. Hang in there sweet boy, the cone will be off soon, and it is for your own good. Keeping good thoughts that the tests are negative. You are in good hands with Hu-Dad, and he is doing what is best for you.
Make it the best you can, Frankie. You deserve lots of treat and love (even if that means being left alone by your brothers) and rest. I know Hu-dad will make sure you get the best care possible.
Poor Frankie! We’ve been in a similar situation with our late Diva several times. It broke our hearts each time (especially when she had part of her earlobe removed due to a large growth). We found that she much preferred a body suit over the cone, so as long as we were able to keep an eye on her she didn’t wear it.
Take your meds and you will be healed in no time. Your neck pillow is so much better than the old plastic cone.
Oh, my dog! I’m glad Frankie is OK!
Oh dear Frankie Suave. Hu-Dad is helping you even if you don’t believe it. The newer cones of shame are more comfortable. Glad you are doing OK.
