Frankie’s Eleventh Herdaversary

The quietest member of The Herd has a momentous anniversary today, so please help us celebrate Frankie’s Eleventh Herdaversary.

Eleven years ago today, we brought home Mr. Brown Eyes himself. Oh, sure, he might not have been the suave canine he grew into, but even at a year-and-a-half or so, he was already Mr. Polite. He did have a few things to learn about life at Chez Herd, such as how seat belts work and the importance of waiting for Hu-Dad’s signal to exit the vehicle.

Stop laughing and help me get back in the Jeep

By the way, for those concerned, the seat belt tests for a newbie are all done well away from traffic (note the gravel road) and with lots of human supervision. Frankie just needed to learn a little patience before exiting.

And he was the healing medicine we needed from the loss the Big Galoot Kodiak. Miss Kiska, in particular, was close to that Big Red boy, but she decided the Frankie might just be cute enough.

Frankie quickly figured out that living at Chez Herd might just have a few creature comforts. Like a couch. A cushy pillow. And a blanket. And a fire in the fireplace.

Could someone please fluff this pillow.

Frankie also found a pal in a certain Red-Header Rooster. Rusty the Rooster, that is.

After a couple of photos of Frankie snoozing in his early days at Chez Herd, you might have the impression he enjoys his naps. We want to clarify that he is a member of the working breeds, so he does understand when tasks need to get done. Here he is helping Hu-Dad do some computer busyness.

For those of you who wonder if Frankie was always Mr. Suave, we point you to one of our all-time favorite stories of a Young Frankenstein involving a pet store, some parakeets, a plexiglass enclosure, and one embarrassed Hu-Dad. It’s at the end of that rather long post.

Happy Herdaversary, Frankie Suave. We leave you with one of our favorite photos of him enjoying a little snowy weather.

I just love seeing all the dogs who were fortunate enough to be in the Herd back in 2011. I also know how LUCKY Frankie was the day he came to live at Chez Herd!

You have a great day Frankie!
