Like a lot of the eastern US, we had thunderstorms move through our area yesterday, which made for quite the office crowd in Hu-Dad’s study.
Fortunately, we missed all of the destruction that so many others had from the storm. We had some much-needed rain, some heavy winds (a common event in the mountains) and a little thunder. The noise from the sky made sure that Frankie camped out in the study for the day. Wherever Frankie is, Landon is just inches away, so he spent the day in the study as well. And, of course, Typhoon is usually found in the study.
Kiska and Qannik sprawled out in the bedroom and Cheoah was on the couchesĀ in the den, per normal. So, yes, Hu-Dad did lots of tripping over Herd members all day. And he actually got some work done, too.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldnāt have been much worse.
Poor Babies…our 2 are just as….”protective” of there Humans as well….
I understand you furry guys wanting to be near your hu-dad in a storm! Those loud noises that come from the sky can be very scary! My Izzy is not a fan of those noises either, so we just hunker down together until the Florida storms pass .
Hasn’t Frankie always had issues with storms? Do you know why or is he just .. one of those dogs that reacts strongly to thunder and lightening ? My Mastiff , who is a rescue, has fear issues, but as long as she is close to me barks and growls to protect (again as long as she’s near me, lol) I don’t know why she is fearful, we got her young but clearly something happened in those early days.
Thank you
Yes, Frankie is not a fan of loud noises, including the thunderstorms and fighter jets that frequent our skies.
Fortunately, he has come a very long ways. We rarely use the Thundershirt (notice he was not wearing it yesterday) and he doesn’t quiver and shake as in the past. He just wants to be near the Hu-Dad and seeks reassurance.
No known reason. As few issues as he has, it could very well not be to any early issue and just related to how sensitive dog hearing is.
