A few readers noticed something important was missing from yesterday’s post, so we sent out a cracker jack search party for answers.
For an amazing seven weeks in a row, we celebrated Film Friday by posting a brand new video on our YouTube page and shared it on our blog. We even relaunched our video page on the website – a page that contains every single video we have ever published.
Despite that trend, we failed to post a video yesterday. And, no, we don’t have one to share today either.
While Hu-Dad would love to blame the holiday weekend, the reality is that he was working on a number of security enhancements on various websites and just ran out of time (videos do take a good bit of editing time).
On the bright side, you may have noticed that our website now has SSL security. Look at the address bar and note that it is green and our website is now a https:// – which means everything is nice and encrypted. You can now sit in your favorite Starbucks, use the Wi-FI, and post a comment and have no fear that someone will hijack your email address.
Ok, we didn’t think that was very exciting either. And it barely took a few minutes to get set up.
The real meat of the changes are behind the scenes security fixes that are even more boring (but incredibly necessary in this world of hackers) or speed related changes to handle the ever increasing number of visitors we get.
Yep, not exciting either. As Hu-Dad says, if you do the IT security right, no one ever notices because things just work.
Don’t worry, though, we have sent our official Spokesdog to explain to Hu-Dad the priorities of getting more videos done.
P.S. – While security enhancements are critical to keeping our website running, sometimes those enhancements can have an unintended impact. If you notice anything cattywampus (that would be a technical term), please drop us a note or comment so that we can address it.

Hurricane Hugo Memories
September 21, 2024
Thirty-five years ago, a massive storm hammered our region and left a path of destruction, leaving us with Hurricane Hugo memories.
“if you do the IT security right, no one ever notices because things just work.”
So. True.
Good to hear about your security upgrades but something did go cattywampus, to use your technical term because I am not getting any daily about the posts. I will sign up again. Aspen and Dakota Hu-Mom Clinton Township, Michigan
Mom sez: Well, all you members of the Herd have to remember that there are only so many hours in each day, and it sounds like the hu-Dad is kinda busy right now, trying to keep up with it all. Have patience, things will get back to “SibeNormal” in time!
