Those of you who follow our Facebook Page, Twitter, and our Google Plus page already know this news, but Natasha came through her TPLO surgery fine Monday. For us, though, it was just a day of waiting for news.
The TPLO surgery to repair the damaged cranial cruciate ligament injury went well. The surgeon did discover some meniscal injury (cartilage damage), but we were already prepared for that possibility. This is a good article if you are curious about meniscal injury.
Based on her progress yesterday, we are expecting Natasha to be discharged from the hospital by mid-day today and then we begin the long road to recovery. The hardest part will be the first few weeks where Natasha’s leg will feel much better, but we can’t let her use it much as the bone heals. Grumpy might be the overstatement of the year!
Thanks to everyone for your best wishes.

Funny story to lighten things up –
Monday evening, the hu-dad decided to take the Pack of Five for a walk, figuring it would do everyone some good to get out of the house. That plan was great except for the part where the hu-dad forgot to check the weather radar before leaving the housing. At exactly the furtherest point from the house, the rain began – a steady, driving, cold fall rain. We were all soaked when we arrived back at the house. We suspect the Queen is laughing at us.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldnât have been much worse.
Thanks for the laugh this morning! A five pack of wet huskies! Bet they had fun though and enjoyed their walk. Thanks for sharing and glad to hear the Queen made it through her surgery!
Mom ‘n Ice BOTH sez: — SO glad ‘Tasha’s surgery went without complications, and that’s she’s going to be her usual “force to be reckoned with” once she’s healed and able to be active again. Much rejoicing here! My sweet Frankie looks so “soulful” while waiting to hear how she made out!
Whoo hoo! A welcome home party is in order! Well, a slow, low key, you can’t move welcome home party. đ
Rain sure is sneaky, it’s caught us several times…usually due to the parents ignoring things like radar. BOL!
The Queen was getting her revenge on missing breakfast on her surgery day! Good news about the surgery. And we know all about the post-surgery-I-wanna-do-something grumpies. Mom is a big fan of sedatives! đ
The Queen is laughing at the drenched pack, I’m sure. I read about meniscus tears in the link you gave. We use adequan for R’s congenital elbow dysplasia (malformed ulna in the elbow joint that has led to lots of cartilage damage), and we can see the difference before versus after the shot. So, in his case, it is definitely worth doing. I hope the Queen is home soon – even if she promises to be a cranky patient!
I know you have more dog experience than we do… but during R’s surgery recoveries, we feed him all of his food frozen in giant kongs. That way, when we take our other dog out for a walk and he has to stay home, he at least has a couple of huge frozen kongs to lift his spirits. Maybe Natasha would like something like that?
What an excellent idea about the frozen kongs! We also have to cut back on her calorie intake over the next few weeks (because she will not be active), so that is a great distraction tool but also a great way to get her to eat slow and feel full. I love it!
Glad everything sounds ok!
I bet your right about her laughing at you all too!
አhusky hugz አfrum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Yes, the Queen is laughing.
Glad to hear she came through so well. I’m sure grumpy will be just fine…yes…just very grumpy.
