Return of the Big Dogs

One of the sure signs of Spring is the return of the big dogs – some of you may call that breed “horses” – at the Cataloochee Ranch next door.  The big dogs winter near Charleston, SC, and return each spring.  Since the road to the valley cuts through the middle of the thousand acre Cataloochee Ranch, we get to see our big dog neighbors regularly.  Today was the first time we have driven through the ranch and seen them since Thanksgiving.

Our big dog neighbors out in their field. (By the way, to give you an idea of the size of the ranch and how close we live to the “park”, the property line is along the ridge you see in the background. The other side of that ridge is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.)

horses have right of way

In case anyone doubts it, the signs make it clear that the big dogs always have the right of way.

Ice sez: With the return of the “big dogs”, you KNOW spring is here. Right now, the only “big dogs” I get to see are what the hu-Mom calls “MOOSE”, roaming our neighbourhood. Yes, they really ARE wandering all through the subdivision we live in, have been, all winter. A cow and her yearling calf.
