As we have mentioned several times this week, this Saturday is the Seventh Annual Downtown (Waynesville, NC) Dog Walk for Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. So, of course, all of The Herd needs to look clean and presentable, right?

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Wait! Here’s an idea: use Rusty’s fluff as a fundraiser for the rescue! Ask people to donate $5 to take a turn to pluck of Rusty!
Rusty, your timing is impeccable. Nice work!
WOW! My Mom totally recognizes that fluffy butt look!!! She just pulled fur out all Summer long…and if they were showing, she gave them nice hot oil treatments in their baths ‘cuz it helped them blow their coat faster so they could get some fur back before showing again. Nothing like it…miss it actually says Mom…paw pats, Savannah
How dare you put up photos that iritate me so much? If you dont pluck that fur, i may have to plot something terrible. Like sending the cracker over for an indefinite vist.
We are still impressed with Sibes who totally blow their coat. We have always just done year-long shedding.
Steve
That is SO THOUGHTFUL of you! Let them get the full experience of us lovely Sibes! Is anyone else in full pluck mode? You guys are the best!
We met a new neighbor today; Dave shedded all over her. I think that’s a fine welcome, don’t you?
Play bows,
Zim
Nellie is starting to blow her coat. I love it but the humans don’t seem to be as thrilled.
Nora
What does ‘blow coat’ mean?
Ooooooh – it is a very Siberian Husky thing to do (and other nordic breeds). You see, we have this thick fluffy undercoat below our guard hairs (the guard hairs keep us dry – the undercoat keeps us warm). Twice a year, we lose that undercoat in our shedding. Except, shedding means we lose all of that undercoat in 2-3 weeks. So we are exploding hair balls – blowing coat – during that time.
Of course, we conspire here so that we spread the timing of blowing coat around so that hu-dad is always dealing with one of us doing it. As he likes to joke, we shed twuce a year. January through June and then July through December.
That doesn’t sound like much fun for hu-dad!
My Juneau gets so aggravated at me because I just can’t keep myself from pulling out that floof!
My Juno is the same. She doesn’t think she ever needs to be brushed, combed or shampooed as she’s perfect just the way she is. Such a little wolf.
My Leena just got done with another brushing, she either fights it or holds her head in shame like she’s done something wrong. It is so sad 🙁
All the Rusty fans are wishing they could go right now so that they could pluck a bit of that floof for themselves! Rusty, why must you tease us so?
