Air Conditioning – Sibe Style

Tartok is demonstrating how a Siberian Husky keeps his belly cool in these summer months.

And you do not even always need a wall to perfect the upside down Sibe.

Post number 996.  From now until our 1,000th post (which should be Thursday), we are accepting nominations of your favorite animal charity.  Next Saturday, we will draw one of those nominations and donate $50 to one of those lucky charities.  In the meantime, all of them benefit from your advertising what a great cause they are.

A few new rescues were nominated in the last 24 hours – Arizona Golden Retriever Connection, Carolina Basset Hound Rescue, and Husky House.  And we had a change in leaders – Joplin Humane Society edged into the lead.

Remember, this is not a vote, but the more nominations each group receives, the better their odds of being drawn as the winner at the end of next week.  The vote count as of about 9 pm (EDT) last night:

How funny! Two of my favorite things – Siberian Huskies and air conditioning. 🙂 You see, we have two Huskies at home. Timber and Tonto are 3 and 4 years old. We adopted them from our local shelter 2 years ago. They were too much of a handful for the previous owners. You need to keep them active. They are such a lovable and wonderful breed. We love them so much! I’m also an air conditioning contractor by trade in our hot state of Florida. You can imagine how much our huskies depend on the air conditioning to stay cool.

Love it! What a beautiful dog! Any way to stay cool during the summer helps!

  3. Colorado Springs Auto Repair on August 6, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Great stuff. They look so comfortable. I know I am a little late (over a year?) but Husky House has done some great things!

    Much love to the herd.

What a gorgeous dog you have. Thanks for sharing.

  5. siku marie on May 31, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Excellent positioning and form! I’d give you a “9.8” We all do the same here…ours is not a home for the overly bashful…or modest.

We are so ready for your big day…and maybe a donation to Sarge’s.

Me and Zimmie do a lot of that, too!

  7. Rocco on May 31, 2011 at 9:01 am

That is one of my favorite ways to lay! I also cool off with a nice AC vent under me!

    Voting for Taysia Blue!

  8. Maxx on May 30, 2011 at 3:52 am

    Ah..the upward dog yoga posture!
    My favourite too!!

    Cheers,
    Maxx

  9. jack & moo on May 30, 2011 at 1:47 am

Hey, we resemble those poses too! But we do think having a wall helps.
    Nominating Joplin Humane Society again.

my 2 cents for Joplin Humane Society..almost forgot to stop by but am watching Natgeo on tv and they are showing the footage again.

Went to a page with the animals listed who have been found..it’s heartbreaking to see so many missing their families and the families are certainly searching for them. The Humane Society has declared that none will be put to sleep. They will hold them as long as needed till their families come forward to claim them.

  14. The Bleu... and now also The Reufus on May 29, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Hee hee hee… There is nothing funner and more cooler on your belly than rolling over under the cool airs of the indoors… unless you live with a kamikaze hellion. Just saying.

    Nice work, Tartok!!!

  17. The OP Pack on May 29, 2011 at 5:38 pm

It became very warm very quickly here today, so there have been three bellies on display here too, even Phantom. Of course, one pup found her spot by the a/c vent:)

    Happy Sunday!

    Go Joplin Humane Society!!!

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

We opted for the air-conditioned house today (it’s about 90 degrees outdoors)–maybe we will go lay in the cool grass this evening. We went wading this morning! Putting another shout out for Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue.

  19. Fiona on May 29, 2011 at 2:13 pm

We’ve got natural air conditioning at the moment! And we want to throw out a vote for OUR favorite charity, Paws and Stripes (http://pawsandstripes.org). They train rescue doggies to be service animals for veterans with PTSD and/or traumatic brain injuries. They totally rock!

    Keep those tummy cool….
Our shout out today is for Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue in Delray, W/ Va.

  21. Kari on May 29, 2011 at 11:47 am

I often wish my pups would lay like that. I vote for BAD RAP 🙂

  22. carolyn on May 29, 2011 at 11:26 am

Maddox is jealous, he can’t do that. He sneezes like crazy!!!

  23. houndstooth on May 29, 2011 at 10:31 am

Tartok has the exact same style as Morgan, although for the most part, she prefers that pose for belly rubs. That is one relaxed Sibe!

We vote for Quad Cities again!

  24. Sagira on May 29, 2011 at 10:28 am

That is so funny. Sagira lays like that a lot as well.
Yeah…my rescue is listed. Sure do hope Louisville Weim rescue gets picked, that would be awesome. 🙂

  25. Terri Jacobson on May 29, 2011 at 10:08 am

In the greyhound world we call this roaching. They are famous for it.

And, of course we have lots of roachers waiting at the Oregon Greyhound Adoption for their forever homes.

  26. Sam on May 29, 2011 at 9:54 am

We will cast another vote for the Arizona Golden Retriever Connection.

Here in Arizona we have our AC units in the ceiling, so our dogs don’t get to enjoy that!

    Sam

  27. Michelle on May 29, 2011 at 6:20 am

Great contest!! The pictures made me giggle. We had a collie growing up who used to sleep that way. Not sure if it was her way of keeping cool in the summer but it always put a smile on my face. 🙂

  28. Holly and Khady on May 29, 2011 at 3:57 am

We totally resemble those poses quite often!

We also want to put in our nomionation again for our dear friends at Taysia Blue SHR.

    Holly and Khady

  29. Hollu and Khady on May 29, 2011 at 3:50 am

We totally resemble both those poses!

And, of course, are putting in another nominagtion for our beloved Taysia Blue SHR!

    Holly and Khady

  30. Gabby Cox on May 29, 2011 at 2:33 am

Skye smushes her face up against the AC when we’re in the van so that none of the front-seat passengers get any cool air. But how could I begrudge her, with that super thick coat of hers?

Our group, Texas Husky Rescue is doing a drive to collect items needed by the displaced Joplin dogs – we’re collecting all dog-related necessities and planning to send all the donations on June 12. Wish we could do more for them… But I’d still like to nominate Texas Husky Rescue, as there are a number of huskies right now that need rescuing from local shelters!

  31. Stella on May 29, 2011 at 2:00 am

This is a good contest, Herd, because we always want every body to win, and this way we can vote for at least a few of our favorites. To day Stella is voting for:

    Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston

Mogley wrote today about the loss of Gracie, another beautiful Golden and this in in memoriam of her.

    Kisses,
    Stella
