This is post 991. WOW! We can not believe that we have posted that many times. Unless we totally mess up, our 1000th post will occur next Thursday, June 2. So how do we celebrate such a momentous occasion?
As all of our long time readers know, we are mostly rescue dogs (Natasha being the only pup in the house that came here at 8 weeks old). We are passionate about our support for Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, our local all-breed rescue and the people responsible for guiding Qannik and Cheoah to The Herd and Ruby to The Herd Annex. We also have to thank Siberian Husky Assist for Kodiak, Sled Dog Rescue of Tennessee (now Tennessee Alaskan Malamute Rescue) for Kiska, Carolina Siberian Rescue for Rusty, and our terrific vet, Animal Hospital of Waynesville, for guiding Tartok to The Herd Annex.
We also know that many – if not most – of our readers are also passionate about animal rescue and animal charities of various sorts. So here is the simple contest that will be open starting today through our 1000th post –
1) To enter, simply comment on any post between today and our 1000th post (which should be June 2).
2) In your comment, mention your favorite animal charity. You may plug the same charity every day OR you may promote a different charity each day. Up to you, but one comment and one charity per post between today and the 1000th post.
3) The organization you mention MUST be a charitable organization focused on our animal friends.
4) Want to increase your favorite organizations odds? Just have fans of that organization come post their comments. All we ask is that those fans be real people and not duplicate or mechanical entries. We reserve the right – and will – block any mechanical or otherwise detrimental entries. Flood us with spam bots and we will block your comments and the entries will not count. Queen Natasha is in charge of determining those things and none of us ever dare to contradict her final ruling.
5) Sometime shortly after June 2, we will hold a very unscientific drawing of all of the entries to select our winner.
6) The winning charity will receive a US$50 donation from The Herd.
How simple, right? Have fun, enter daily if you wish, and let others know about your favorite animal charity. The worst thing that happens is your charity gets free publicity and they might just receive a donation of $50.
P.S. – Feel free to share this contest on your own blogs!

Hurricane Hugo Memories
September 21, 2024
Thirty-five years ago, a massive storm hammered our region and left a path of destruction, leaving us with Hurricane Hugo memories.
Wow, congrats on your posting!!!!!!! Have always enjoyed reading and seeing your amazing pictures! 🙂
I will give a shout out to Ginger’s Pet Rescue in Seattle, WA. That is where we found our Penny 🙂
Had two Husky mixes great dogs. I support Arizona Golden Retriever Connection
texas husky resuce in dallas/ fort worth
I vote for Texas Husky Rescue!
Fostered several Siberians and adopted my baby boy Bandit (5 yrs old when I adopted him)!
Go team Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida!!
You guys are so nice to do this. Would love to have mom’s rescue added, http://www.louisvilleweimrescue.com
🙂
You guys are the BEST! Well, Dave and I both did stints in our local slammer, but the charity that’s our FAVE is MaPaw Siberian Rescue and Referral Service.
Play bows,
Zim
Wow! Happy soon-to-be 1,000th post! Your contest is so “pawsome!” I have a few, so I’ll post a different one each time! For this post, it would have to TOTTSHR – Tail of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue.
Although these are all great rescues, I have to vote for Texas Husky Rescue based in dallas/ft. Worth area. Celebrating rescuing 250 beautiful dogs and still going strong 🙂
Texas Husky Rescue
TEXAS HUSKY RESCUE IS MY VOTE! THEY ARE AN AWESOME GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT I’VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH.
Texas Husky Rescue !
Thank you for giving homes to so many beautiful dogs! They are lovely. This is my first visit to your site, but I’ll be back a few hundred times, and I might even read a post or two and not just gaze at your gorgeous sibes 🙂
Whenever I take my own 2 girls out, people are always asking where I got them… and I rave about Texas Husky Rescue for blessing me with my 2 girls who otherwise would not be alive today.
We need more blogs like this one!! Thanks again!!!!!
Texas Husky Rescue
I vote for Texas Husky Rescue based in Dallas/Ft Worth Texas.
My huskies are all rescues & strays from different places. My fave rescue will just be the most local I’ve been donating to since we were restationed here, 2nd Chance Cen-Texas Animal Shelter. They had a huge fire last winter from electrical malfunctioning losing many animals to smoke inhalation & have been trying to rebuild ever since. They’re a no kill shelter. If my comment gets picked, I’d like it to go to them.
Congrats on the amazing blog!!!
I’ll give a plug for our organization down here in Texas – Texas Husky Rescue (www.texashuskyrescue.org), we are celebrating our 2 year anniversary this month and have rescued over 250 huskies!!! It’s been an amazing journey and we can’t wait till we celebrate next milestone of 500 rescued!
Gotta say all of these charities are awesome! I’m a fan of http://www.taysiablue.com here in Omaha! We have quite a few rescue pups right now!
Congratulations on the upcoming 1000 posts! I got in late on reading dog blogs but I think I’m current on all 900+ of your’s so far (I hope my boss never sees this!) I recognize the dedication on top of your attempts to achieve tired sibe, as I tried to copy you and only got two posts completed…
I would like to nominate Texas Husky rescue. They are a relatively new group, starting in 2009, but are celebrating 250 dogs saved since then! I’m a current volunteer and inactive foster, due to an old KHAT and an old fence. I got to experience foster failure with them and now have my second husky, Wolfy.
Good luck on the next posts and don’t stop like Turbo did!
Woo
go Texas Husky Rescue!
I am in Fort Worth and didn’t know about this group–Got my Husky girl from adoptahusky.org. Congrats to them! They have my votes now!
Greetings to the herd and congratulations on the 1000th post and looking forward to many more!!!
I may not be commenting lately but I’m still reading your blog.
Your fan,
Homer (woof!)
Wow! What a momentous occasion! And what a wonderful way to comemmorate it! I’m grateful to all of the organizations who have brought us The Herd, but I must cast a vote for my personal allegiance…
Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston
The good news is that they introduced the Mom to The Luke. And they delivered me to the her. The slightly questionable news is… they brought us both the Reufus!
Well, hi there!!
I am new in the dog blog world. My mumma counted up & I have SEVEN post – she says I don’t even have enough paws to count up to seven and that I would even need way more legs than a centipede to count up to 1000. So that must be a fery fery BIG number.
Mamma did not get me from a rescue, but she did get the stinky cat from the SPCA in our town. She does not think you can give the green papers to somewhere in my country, so she says we would like them to go to someone who is helping the animals in Japan if we win.
Your New Zealand furiend,
Ruger
Sniff our tails, Sibe friends, The White Dogs have 2154 posts! Finally SOMETHING where the WDA is not following YOUR lead! Seriously though, 1000 posts is an amazing milestone and your dedication to rescue and supporting your local shelters is tremendous! We can think of no better way to honor your achievement than by earmarking the donation, if we win, to Sarge’s.
Congrats! Our favorite rescue is the one that placed Abby with us as a foster to adopt. She has been a very hard case for them, costing a lot of money due to behavioral issues. They stuck with her despite it all. They are MUSH rescue in Atlanta, and they are such wonderful people!
Awooos to you from Dief and Abbs 🙂
I don’t know if you can send a donation to a rescue in Australia but I’ll plug the Australian Animal Protection Society if I can.
Great way to celebrate. We would like to see the money go to help some of the animals suffering because of the tornado in Joplin. We will have to see if we can find a name for you.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
What a pawesome idea!
As fur favourite charity – that is a khwestion to make my mom’s head spin and pulse –
Although I khame from The York County (PA) SPCA, I’m going to go with http://www.siberescue.com/index.html since they were the furst reskhue group Mom found some of the special Sibes in her life –
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
We support Rescue, some need financial help more than others but all do the same thing trying to find forever homes for those that need it the most.
Our Rescue today is All Most Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue, Delray, W. Va.
Sheila & Bob
Lets start out with Sarge’s Animal REscue Foundation, which we know is dear to your heart. We will add a few more of our local ones as the count down goes on.
Congrats on ALL THOSE POSTS!
Cheers,
Stella
Even though me’n Ice didn’t come from a rescue group, we’d like to put in a few “woofs” for the Dawson Creek BCSPCA (British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Dawson Creek BC Canada. They do a lot of rescue work in our area, too, our Hu-Mom and Dad say. (From Ayla)
Great idea. We love BAD RAP

Woo-hooo, what a khool way to celebrate!
We’ll put in a plug for each of the 3 rescues we donate to.
Today , we’ll mention Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue http://www.siberescue.com/ Jack got to meet Khyra herself there! (Along with Butters and a couple other bloggin dogs.) Jack was hiking at their fundraiser with his best buddy Moon when they met a cute little sibette named Neve. Then Neve became Moon’s sisfur after TTSHR selected their family to be her furever home!
We love happy endings!
jack & moo
Holy cow! 1,000 posts! Craziness! 🙂
We would plug Therapy Dogs International, but I don’t think they technically count as a charity. It’s a volunteer organization though. Who knows.
If Therapy Dogs International doesn’t count, we’d like to put in a good word for Mr. Pip’s rescue–The Red Door Animal Shelter!
Elyse and Riley
Wow, 1000 posts, so impressive. I’m right behind you.
Well, the hounds of Greyhound Gardens have to put in a plug for Oregon Greyhound Adoption.
What a great way to celebrate! congratulations on your upcoming milestone! 1000 posts! YIKES!!!
What a totally cool way to celebrate!
We’d have to plug Quad Cities Greyhound Adoption! Without them, we wouldn’t have shared our lives with some wonderful hounds!
Woowooo! Congrats on the post. We’ve mentioning
“Southern Sibe Rescue”. $50 bucks buys some much needed kibble!
luv,
Simcha
Here to plug Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida, Inc. in Seminole, FL. 🙂
http://www.siberrescue.com
Wow, what a cool idea! The pups are absolutely beautiful!!
Congrats on nearing your 1000th post! Our hu-parents are volunteers with Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue. http://www.siberescue.com/ While we are not rescues from that organization ourselves, we help them out by demoing sledding and scootering at some of their events.
–Rubina (former shelter dog), Holly and Sprite
Congratulations on teh 1000th post! Juno asked me to post her favorite: FJFMD (Feed Juno Filet Mignon Daily) but I pointed out it had to be a ligit 401C. so she wrote the numbers after it and said it was. I don’t believe her.
I don’t have a favorite, as they are ALL my favorites. I got Loki from AHAN (Asians for Human and Animals and Nature) and Juno from a sibe rescue BASH (Bay ARea Siberian Husky). but I am just as happy with any rescue you choose. and of course thrilled that your 6 have a great home (i mean, 8 including the annex!)
Woofs! 1000 posts??!! That is so pawsome! What a huge accomplishment! I am so furry impressed! I can’t wait to read what you paw for the big 1000th post. And I assume there will be a huge pawty? ;->
Your contest rocks, and it is very generous of you pups.
Suka
Happy Almost 1,000th post – that’s less than eleventy-seven bazillion right?
We’re going to thank the Winnipeg Humane Society because we found Timba there at 4 months old. He didn’t grow up to be a husky as they advertised, but he’s a keeper!
The Buddy Foundation is in Arlington Heights, IL and where I adopted my puppy at 8 weeks old. They really know how to take care of their animals while they wait for their forever home.
