Breaking News

We interrupt our regularly scheduled blog for this breaking news.  We know, we know, we had promised to share with you the damage and repairs from a certain invasion of cute, furry creatures.  We think the hu-dad believes we failed in our guard dog duties.  He keeps pointing out that we were all out on the dog porch alone when the damage occurred.  Not sure what he really means by that.  Regardless, we are delaying that story until Wednesday’s post, so just bear with us.

We are postponing because we have real breaking news.  Not some silly story like you see on the TV networks.  You know, not something like Charlie Sheen said something totally incomprehensible or Justin Bieber parted his hair in a different way.  No, this is real news.  Look at this:

SNOW!

We were supposed to receive heavy rains all weekend and had received about 3 inches (8 cm) of rain when suddenly it shifted to snow Sunday morning.  The National Weather Service helpfully issued a Winter Weather Advisory, AFTER we already had an inch or so and the snow plows were running.  Guess they were as surprised as the rest of us.

Rusty was loving his unexpected snow romp.

Not wanting to let a surprise snow go to waste, we took off hiking.

We enjoyed the snow surrounding our favorite tree.

And, of course, we had to watch in on our neighbors over at Cataloochee Ski.

Cataloochee Ski was enjoying their last skiing day of their 50th season.

The ski patrol had planned to work for another month, but our unseasonably warm February ended skiing season early.

But we didn't want to think of winter ending early, so we just took off to enjoy our snow.

And walked our way back through our field toward our favorite tree.

We will be back tomorrow with Ruby Tuesday and a visit to our cousins across the valley, and then we will resume our look at that mysterious damage at Chez Herd and the repairs on Wednesday.  Thanks for your patience!

We are so happy for your snowy surprise and that you took immediate advantage of it…carpe snow-um!

Tell hu-dad that our momma is having some of those real old person flashbacks (like the Mr. Bill thing). Perhaps they can share a drooling giggle!

Yay! Snow! We had rain here all weekend. It’s sunny today, but muddy.

We’re so glad you got some more snow. Sure wish we could share some of our with you. The way we’re going here in the Peace Country of Northern British Columbia, our hu-Mom says we should still be able to play in the snow ’til May!

WHAT?? Snow again??? Pretty amazing. I believe global warming has worldwide weather all screwed up.

Your Pack never fails to amaze me with their magnificent and majestic appearance. Very glamorous crew. The Red Carpet has NOTHING on your beautiful dogs. I can imagine running into them — would be completely star struck.

And yes, I am getting quite tired of Charlie Sheen and his loser posse. He needs serious medical attention. Sad. Have a great day.

We were supposed to get the first snow since the 60’s but it turned to rain before it got here. We were looking forward to doing Husky imitations, but o, well…

  16. Sage on March 7, 2011 at 10:18 am

Oooooh, more suspenseful days awaiting the damage report! Good thing you had some snow though–it might keep those critters away!

It’s snowing here too! And, it’s supposed to continue, on and off, for days!

I’m not sure that I can wait until Wed to find out what the alien invaders did to your dog room…

  20. Sonic on March 7, 2011 at 8:11 am

Is it just me, or are you guys floofier in the snow?

    Enjoy the frosty stuff!

I’m glad the snow went to you, since you all like it so much! I am just ready to see anything that isn’t dead grass and frozen mud. This mystery is really vexing me, though!

  22. Pamela on March 7, 2011 at 6:39 am

I wish you’d come visit me. We could use some help breaking trail through the 3 foot drifts in front of my house.

Glad you got another snow before spring.

  23. The OP Pack on March 7, 2011 at 6:30 am

Lucky herd!!! We have more torrential rain AND more t-storms coming in tonight into tomorrow with the possibility of some white stuff at the end. But then we will all be swimming in the muddy pond and the snow will melt upon hitting the surface. 🙁

Glad you all got to have at least one good weekend walk in the snow.

Wow! It’s amazing to see your pictures – Dad wore shorts for the first time this weekend. I think I would rather have a little more cold weather though – this means we are rushing towards 120 degree days!
