Sled Dogs at the Park

Saturday was a beautiful day and the humans had some errands they needed to do in Asheville.  Since most of the roads to our favorite trails are still snow covered and closed, we are good with that because we get to go to some great trails in the Asheville City Parks.  What we did not expect to see was a professional sled dog practicing for upcoming races.  Brace yourself for the raw power of a sled dog.  Ready?

Check out the rippling muscles and awesome strength as he slams into his harness.

We know, it is a breathtaking sight.

Just remember, this is a professional.

P.S. – All kidding aside, this little guy looked like he was having the time of his life and his humans were enjoying the beautiful day.

Interesting. Maybe that dog is bigger than he looks in the picture.

The raw power & form of that dog is inspiring. Hopefully The Herd absorbed some of it!!!!

I thought of Pip, too! If he could race Bunny, then he could probably give The Herd a run for their sled dog money, too!

Too funny! See, every dog secretly dreams of being a Sibe!

Mom keeps threatening to get one of those little Cracker Dogs, uh, Yorkies, to keep us on our toes! Given what I’ve seen of them, I’m thinking it is only the fact that their legs are 2 inches long and they’d get stuck in the snow that has kept them out of the Iditarod! 😉

Looks like the little guy was fully engaged and happy! We in Alaska are preparing for the real deal… the Iditarod will get underway the first weekend of March! I always enjoy watching the dogs and the action in downtown Anchorage at the ceremonial start of the race. Will be there this year, camera in hand!
