Road Maintenance

Woo - our "main" road is looking a little different.

Spring maintenance!

Our poor dirt roads really take a beating in the winter, particularly this road which takes all of the traffic to Cataloochee Ski.  We love our neighbors at the ski resort.  They take such great care to remove the snow in the winter so we can get up and down the mountain, but also because they work to restore the road in the spring.  Spring is when maintenance is done on our roads to take out the “washboards” and make them smooth again for the summer.

Thanks neighbor!

I always used to be interested in dirt roads I happened to come across back in New York. They often led to interesting biking routes.

Do they run the schedule for maintenance past you guys? I hope they fix your road when it’s convenient for the Herd!

I don’t know about you, but I find it ridiculously exciting when the graders come out! You have to love dirt road living. 🙂

What nice neighbors…and how wonderful it will be to have all the ruts and potholes smoothed over! You know, if all of you and all of the Eskies we know joined forces we could cover the world in a beautiful soft blanket of shed fur…Happy Earth Day!

Always great to have good neighbors! Yours look like they are as great as ours! Ours came over a few months ago and offered to plow and plant our hay fields as long as we bought the seed. Well, YEAH! $75 for enough hay to feed our horses for 6-8 months when hay is going for $13 a bale and they eat 3 bales a week! That’s about 2 weeks in exchange for 6-8 months!!! Praise God for good neighbors!

Did you get to go out and help make some of the potholes bigger for the big dirt mover?

That’s a serious machine. We don’t have any dirt roads to maintain around here, but I know of a few streets with hot tub potholes and inverted craters that could use some neighborly care.

    How nice of them!

Wow, they really treat you well. Did you put your order in for a good rainstorm so you could partake of some mudbaths?

I hope the Herd finds the construction work entertaining and not annoying. It will be so nice when it’s all finished!

Woo, your attitude is SO different from mine. We live on a dirt road, and that machine makes the road so treacherous for bikes for at least a week after it goes through… Oh my, I flee the other way, and stay away for a long time when it appears. But, I guess that the washboards would be pretty bad without it.

  18. moo too on April 22, 2010 at 9:06 am

how thoughtful of them! Don’t suppose they’d want some help from the Herd moving that dirt around, huh?

I have a dream that one day I can see the herd run loose down that dirt road. I know I know…. but I just would love to see it!

PS has the ski hill adopted the herd at the official mascot?
