The weather has been cool, but with some showers a couple of times a day. We woke up Sunday morning to low hanging clouds and a drizzly rain. While that may not appeal to everyone, we really enjoy the weather – especially the views off of our front porch. Don’t you love the clouds clinging to the side of the mountains?:
Many of you may remember the series of pictures we did from the porch last fall where we showed you the fall color week to week. You can always go back to this post and then follow the links in it if you want to see every week. But this will give you an idea of what our view will be in just a few weeks:
We went up behind the house Sunday morning to the ranch at the top of the mountain and took this picture. The ridge you see in the top right is the same ridge that we see from our front porch. And that means that our house is in this picture. Can you spot it? Look right in the center.
You can click to enlarge, but let’s help you a little by zooming in first. Can you see our house now?
Ok, well let’s zoom much closer in and see if you can see it.
Yep, that is Chez Herd. By the way, all of the land between our house and where this picture was made is owned by the ranch, so it is a very big ranch. Pretty cool to look up behind our house and see cows and horses wandering around up on the mountain ridge. And while we were there taking pictures, a really big dog – our humans said horse – walked past us. We all know how Natasha loves big dogs.
Oh well, you know us and what we did the rest of the day.

Wings of Doom
December 12, 2024
A simple nightly routine with my dogs led me to face the wings of doom, a hideous creature that lurks in the shadows of my yard.
It is so beautiful where you live – Woodrow loves the Big Dogs too – I keep telling him they are his big brothers and sisters many times removed – he does look like a horse
Thanx for all the support during Woodrow illness it is greatly appreciated

Mom saw a tree that was starting to change color already. So we know that our flame maples aren’t too far behind. She loves fall color and knows that you must have quite a view in peak color season.

Oh yes! We do love the low-hanging clouds. Sometimes the entire valley looks like a lake with mist rising on it. I do envy your view and your nearby ranch. The best of all places. We purchased land on Plott Mountain in Haywood County but then decided we didn’t want to deal with the snow at that altitude so we sold it and built in Transylvania instead. But when I see places like yours…
What a great view! Fall colors already, huh? And I thought we were the only ones. Our leaves were starting to go right before we left. We’re expecting the fall flame to be fully out by the time we get home. (Which means walking on crunchy leaves for me!)

Your neighborhood is beautiful, Herd! Thinking about NC and Big Dogs, my Mom told me that when she lived in the NC countryside, her neighbor had a big dog who used to get away and when he did, he would come and look in their windows. Not usual at all to look up and see a big horse face looking at you. After a while, it didn’t even startle her anymore. Mom said the horse never knocked so she didn’t invite him in. hawhawhaw!
Kisses,
Stella
I love the view of fluffy husky butts. 😀
Those mountains are so cool! So are the clouds – kind of moody!
I love how your house is nestled in like that – it’s like a postcard. So is the shot of all of you hiking. We’d sure all love to go with you!
Luv,
Dave

Our K has found a horse who will play ‘stick’ with her. The horse holds one end and K holds the other. I’ve never gotten a photo but I need to!
You DO have the best view ever. John and Kelly say that they wish they had that view, too! It’s been a little cloudy and cool here in Georgia, too. It’s supposed to be sunny today. I hope you enjoy it.
Ozzie
The views are spectacular. We can see why you love it there so much. We have a few trees already turning color, won’t be long now. Hope your hike was a good one.
