Blowing Coat

One curse of Siberians is the semi-annual coat blowing.  It is really hard to describe exactly how much fur is involved.  Ammy of the A04 demonstrated just the other day (to which Huffle asked if Zim had exploded – chuckling).  And even Khyra, in all her perfectness, had evidence of coat blowing around her in pictures.

Rusty has been blowing coat for weeks, but Natasha has started in earnest this week.  Now when Natasha blows coat, it is a serious affair.  She was brushed Friday afternoon (an experience for both the human and Sibe, since Natasha is never shy about expressing her displeasure).  Despite that thorough brushing, these pictures were taken Saturday morning on our hike.

We invite everyone to show us their best coat blowing, shedding, or brushing pictures.  We really look forward to seeing the best pictures!

Oh boy oh boy, it’s that time of the year!! We came back from a trip to Tri-Cities, WA and the weather was a bit hotter than here (Washougal, WA), so we started shedding more…Time for Mommy to whip out the brushes. She got 4 large piles of fur…

Wow, that’s nuts! Mom gets tired of us because we don’t really blow, we just constantly shed. She wonders what is wrong with us!

Oh yeah, Mommy wants to add that since the beginning of last month, I have lost 20lbs in fur. Or at least it looks that way. Everyone’s been commenting on how skinny I’ve gotten all of a sudden. does that happen to you guys?

Aww, if only this had been a month sooner, I would have pictures! Last month was blow-coat month. Mommy is looking at your pictures and nodding sadly, though. She knows. she knooows.

    Woos,

Like Rusty, I started blowing my coat weeks ago and like Natasha, I show my displeasure getting brushed. 🙂 Mom said something about brushing me this week and she will try to get pictures, but it could be an impossible task. We will try our best. Hope you all had a great weekend!

I think I blow my coat year round, Mommy has some great pictures on the computer of a brushing, and I whine, scream and growl to get her to stop doing it.

Pee Ess Woo-My coat looks just like Natasha right now.

I don’t blow my coat because it is very sleek and shiny all the time.

I have a special surprise for you all on my blog today, please stop by.

My mom is a SERIOUS pluck-a-holic and wanted to reach in and start plucking! She’s got it baaaaaad, you pups, she’s got it reaaaaaaaaal bad!
Stormy has us all on a Coat Blowing Roster – we rotate so one of us is blowing at almost any time of the year. She said it’s more entertaining for Mom this way. Hee hee hee!
    Love,

Sadly, I do not blow coat. I like to keep it all to myself but that is why I usually look chunky. Momma swears that we have all afternoon scheduled for trying to get my undercoat out today.

I blew my coat a couple of months ago, my Mom got very tired of wading around in black fluff!

But what I wanted to tell you was to save all the fur out of all six dogs, have it spun into yarn and you could knit yourself Mittens, a Cap and a huge sweater for all the fur you would get! Save some for my Mom!

    Kisses,
    Stella

We have lots of before and after brushing pics but I’m not sure we have any good pics of coat blowing. The minute we start mom takes us to work and blows it out with a force dryer! Maybe you should get one of those, it works great and we like it much better than the evil brush!

  12. The OP Pack on May 17, 2009 at 10:34 am

Isn’t it amazing that the more you brush, the more that appears to be plucked! The OP Pack did most of their blowing over Easter while at the kennel. Dakota doesn’t have a lot to share, Phantom is pretty much done, and TD looks like he is ready to start all over again. Did you say semi-annual? We think it is perpetual.

Wait. . are you telling me that my butt is going to explode?? This sounds terrible. And it’s going to happen twice a year? I’m not sure that I’m ready for this. Right now I still have my sleek puppy coat. I’m shedding–but not very much. Beautiful, white, fuzzies. . .

Us Bullies get brushed once a week and dont actually blow out coat – that looks rough

No photographic evidence, but Daisy has been blowing coat for about 2 weeks. There are distinctive little tufts all over the house.
