Dogs of Winterfest – Part 3 – The Working Dogs

We have saved the best for last.  The video embedded below shows the ending of the run from Abingdon to Damascus, VA, as well as a couple of pictures of the sled dogs after the run.  Watching the dogs come across the finish line is the highlight of the event.

As always, a very special thank you to Siberian Husky Assist, the Siberian Husky rescue organization that sponsors this event.  We always think of them fondly because they brought Kodiak to us.

P.S. – Laughing at ourselves here. As we were preparing this entry, we discovered this was our 501st post. Forgot to celebrate number 500 yesterday. So much for milestones.

I’m laughing right along with you. Done the same twice – not at 500 though. Impressive. I bet we’ll all love having this to look back on twenty or thirty years from now…

Looks like it was quite the event!

  13. Bentley on January 19, 2010 at 3:19 pm

I’ve got to agree with Houndstooth, I don’t think I’d be too good at towing a cart or scooter (love to tow my human at the end of a leash, but that’s a different story!) Still, I can sure tell all those dogs are having a good time.

    Congrats on post 501!

You’re absolutely right. The best for last and now the fest is complete 🙂 A lot of hanging tongues at the finish line. Don’t get me wrong, they were definitely happy and satisfied tongues, but I think I’ll just watch.

i think i saw this last year on your blog too and i just loved the vids! it really is a charm to watch them pull. sigh. juno would be so jealous. i cannot show her because she is not allowed to pull anything anymore. except her skillet for you know what… 😉

    booowhahahaha!
pee ess woo: juno likes the chase it toy and will play with it for a while, but she’s not cracker for it like Loki. she usually just gets jealous and tries to play with him and me at the same time or steel it from him. so i have to play with her first, wear her out then let loki play and she’s usually too tired to try to interrupt. it’s really a one doggie game unfortunately. unless you had 2 humans and 2 doggies…ooooo that gives me an evil idea!

    wags-n-wiggles,

Congratulations on #500! Here’s to the next 500!

  24. KB on January 19, 2010 at 10:34 am

I’m shocked. The title floored me “The working dogs”. What? Based on your blog, I felt certain that Sibes absolutely never did any work!! They just send their humans to work while they lounge on and destroy couches!!!!

  25. Houndstooth on January 19, 2010 at 8:18 am

That looks like so much fun! You’d never see greyhounds pulling people on carts like that. They’d expect us to pull them! lol

It’s still a milestone, whether you mentioned it or not!

  26. Teddy Bear on January 19, 2010 at 3:32 am

Pawesome video. It looks like the humans really enjoyed themselves.:) Congratulations on your 501st post!
