On Saturday, we had the terrific opportunity to attend the grand opening celebration of Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation new adoption center. This is a terrific facility that allows a very spacious area for dogs, a special cat room (apparently those feline types like to be separate from us canines – go figure), and plenty of extra room.
For those of you who do not know, we are huge fans of Sarge’s and the terrific work that they do. In our very rural county, they have set out to significantly reduce the euthanasia rate at our local animal shelter. And they have guided Qannik and Cheoah into our home and Ruby into the hu-grandmom’s home. They use the donations that come their way in a very frugal manner to ensure the best outcome for as many animals as possible. This new adoption center will help them further their mission.
We love an entrance that has a picture of a certain famous group of Siberian Huskies - particularly when it is not the post office and the word "Wanted" appears above it.
The outdoor dog adoption area is shaded and very spacious.

Not everypup loved having their picture taken.
But some pups sure knew how to work the crowds.
And some pups knew how to get maximum attention with minimum energy.
And the van that transports so many animals to new homes - we have to show it off as well.
Our humans, of course, would never be partial to any particular breed, now would they?
Say, like, walk certain pups around?
This would be Niko. No, he did not come home with us. Despite valiant efforts by the Sarge's volunteers.
Tomorrow, we will share some pictures of the cats that were at the facility. For some reason, we were not allowed to go into the cat area. We are not sure why.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?

Don’t know how hu-dad could resist the the white dog blue-eyed charms of Niko. Congratulations to Sarge’s on their new facility. May it help them better serve the community and provide more furred ones with second chances. They do great work!

Good thing Sarge’s place isn’t closer – that Niko could find a home here. We think he would make a great addition to the Herd or even the Annex.

What a great organization, and what gorgeous adoptable dogs! Those are huge kennels, too–so nice. No Niko?? Cmon, what’s one more?!
Niko is gorgeous! Too bad I don’t live closer or need another dog lol. I hope he finds a great home. I hope they all do.
There is much oooing and aahing over Niko here! I suppose it would create a slight imbalance in The Herd if he were to come to the Siberian Palace, but he sure is a looker.
I am glad to see that the Hu-Dad left his camouflage socks at home on the day of the parade! *grin* I’m glad to know you didn’t have to do a walk of shame that day.
That facility is really nice! From all I’ve read about the group, it sounds like their good work has really paid off. I’ll bet they will do even better now!
It would SO shake up things a WOO bit if they wouldn’t keep the population separated like THAT!

did the Herd like Niko? i LOVE Niko! thank dog i’m in CH. that’s all i can say.
btw: the swiss go crazy for sibes here. they aren’t a huge “pet” breed. tho you see them in sled teams a lot, not as pets. i see them occasionally in town but not as often as labs, mixed breeds, terriers etc. we always get “Un HOOOSKY!” shouted our way in exuberance… of course juno loves it. 🙂
Perhaps the Sarge gang was worried that the cats might harm your Sibes. Cats seem to like to hit, bite ears, and scratch noses. Nothing personal, its just something they like to do.
