Oh No – A Mr. Bill Kind of Day

Mr. Bill

Ever since our reference to the old Saturday Night Live character, Mr. Bill, our hu-dad has noticed how many Mr. Bill moments he has been having.  But Saturday may have taken the cake.  So let’s see how his day went:

His morning started with a flying Kodiak greeting.  You see, Kodiak sleeps in an arm chair in the bed room – about 5 feet from the hu-dad’s sleeping spot.  Kodiak has this routine where he leaps from his chair and lands on the hu-dad’s bed to say good morning.  But he does not always check to see where the hu-dad might be and sometimes lands ON the hu-dad.  Something about being sound asleep and then having nearly 60 lbs of Sibe land on you makes for an interesting fuzzy alarm clock.

Would I do that?

Qannik always seems to be jealous of the attention that Kodiak is getting (as you can imagine, Kodiak gets immediate attention from the flying Kodiak greeting), so the Q has to climb up to the hu-dad.  Q and Kodi start the morning bath routine of the hu-dad who is still trying to get oxygen back into his lungs.  That, of course, means Rusty has to climb up to see why the hu-dad is making funny gasping sounds.

The cool part is that we are rewarded by all being allowed to go outside.  The hu-dad looked at the clock and realized that the first number was a 5 – and it was Saturday morning – but, sadly, he was now awake and going back to sleep was not an option.

No problem, he went upstairs and pulled out the laptop and started reading blogs (because he always has eleventy-bazillion unread blogs).  Just as the low battery warning came on the laptop, the house suddenly plunged into darkness as we lost power.  This is a fairly common occurrence and all you can do is wait until it comes back on, so we decided to go hiking.

Nothing like hiking in the morning!

All of the above is known to our fans of the Facebook Fan Page, but there is more.  Since he was now awake, he dressed in layers for our morning walk.  But as the walk started, he realized it was warmer than he thought, so he took off his Columbia river diver shirt and placed it in the jeep.  After the walk – which was uneventful – we were driving around when a full glass of iced tea got spilled – right on top of the shirt (and, no, the spill was not caused by one of us – a human was at fault).  So the shirt is now soaked and the hu-dad is only in a t-shirt.  Knowing that he will need that shirt to stay warm in the evening, he spread it across the spare tire cover at our next stop so it would dry in the sun.  Great thought, huh?

Can you see what happens next.  Yep – we drove off without retrieving the shirt.  Apparently it stayed on the tire cover for a way until it got knocked off as we crossed some train tracks.  How do we know that?  Well, upon realizing the shirt was missing, we went back looking for it.  We found it.

Apparently, bunches of cars and at least one train had passed over the shirt.

Oh no, Mr. Bill!

P.S. – On the good side, this could be an advertisement for Columbia because the shirt is still in great shape, though it needed a spin through the laundry.

What a day! Sorry about the shirt. 🙁 It really doesn’t look too-too bad though for all it went through! Love the walking pics; as usual, you all look beautiful!

Loved hearing about the day. Made me very glad mine was so uneventful.

I usually get the same kind of Sibe-awakening on Saturday mornings. Roy gets up first, puts the coffee on, then lets Ice n’ Ayla in, tells them to “Go see Mom”. They do — full force! Romp around and over-top of me for a couple of minutes, then off they go back to the kitchen, to see what treats Dad might have for them, having done as they were told, and now, a reward in store.

You’re a mind reader, this read like a great commercial and I was wondering if the shirt made it!

Very interesting way to wake hu-dad up!
For some reason I feel sorry for that shirt!
Happy monday to all of you!

    Dear Mr. Hu-Dad!
I’m confused. You are made of clay? Oh no! I hope when Kodiak pounces on you, he can re-attach your head. I think you lost it this week.

Aaron and I had quite a laugh over your description of Hu-dad’s awakening. It sounds very similar to our house, except there are only two dogs, which aren’t Sibes. Does it count that Monty somehow manages to morph into three dogs while this is happening?

Mom concedes a 60lb. Sibe landing on your chest on the bed trumps a 20 lb. Eskie who lands sure footedly on the fully extended sleep postion kneecap! Glad the shirt was not MIA!

I think you should send this story to them for sure. Maybe they will send a few more shirts. hehe

Your dad is possibly nearly as hopeless as mine!

I must say, your hu-dad has a good sense of humour!

    Thanks for sharing.

If you’d been in that shirt it really would have been a “Mr. Bill” moment! OH NO!

    Stay safe!

A 60 lb Siberian is an alarm clock that has its plus sides and it minus sides, we know our Dad appreciates all the sides, except at 5 AM.

Woo should definitely send this story on to Columbia, they’re the kind of company that just might decide to use woo guys on a commercial! Who could resist 6 gorgeous Siberians in an ad??? (Not our mom, that’s why she drives an Outback…true story)

But it does sound like an “OOOOOOOH NOOOOOOO!” Mr. Bill kinda day. : 0

We got stuck on the part about jumping on the hu-dad while he was sleeping – how do we get to do that when the humans don’t let us upstairs?

Glad to see the shirt survived – but we do wonder if the hu-dad will wear it again soon – could be a sign of some sort.

In a progressively higher, squeaky voice, Mr. Bill says:

“Too much, too much, too much!”

Ha! Love it! It’s nice to know I’m in good company!

  23. Jeanine on November 15, 2010 at 10:05 am

I, unfortunately, do not wake up happy. The sibes jumped on me once! Now, they are very careful to only hit Honey!!!! As she is gasping for air and asking for help, I can only mutter, “they’re your dogs!!!”

  24. KB on November 15, 2010 at 9:41 am

I love the photo of Kodiak – the “Would I do that?” moment!

I sure does sound like “one of those days” – except that the hiking photo looked divine. Beautiful woods and enthusiastic dogs – what more could you want?

    Glad the shirt is OK!

  25. Houndstooth on November 15, 2010 at 8:23 am

Ha ha ha! Thank you for the morning laugh, Hu-Dad! The shirt looks like it was just laying there, waiting for the train to end its suffering! Columbia does make good stuff, said as I look down at the sweater I’m wearing this morning!

  26. Pamela on November 15, 2010 at 8:10 am

You definitely have to share your story with Columbia. Maybe the herd will get featured in a commercial!

  27. Ricky on November 15, 2010 at 7:36 am

    OHHHHHH NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Very funny! But glad no hu-dads were seriously injured in the story!

  28. priscilla on November 15, 2010 at 6:54 am

What a great way to wake your dad up! Well, I don’t envy him, though!

    Super shirt!!!

the post/site works through FB link. hmph. i wonder if it’s on my end tht i can’t get to your post thru GR? all other WP blogs work through it though…

anyhooo… last year when i took the dogs to a “warehouse” dog training class, i got out of the car to find out where my missing keys were: on the back trunk of the BMW in the crevices. now that doesn’t seem like a big deal, but given that the class was 25-30 miles away, DOWN an very twisty turny road of 10 miles, with a BMW and a lead foot, it was a shocker they were still there. darn dogs must have distracted me. never told Mr. WD cuz he’s always saying i’m a train wreck. I have no idea why he says that.

the visual of kodi jumping and landing on you is priceless. you told it better here than FB.

    Oh no Mr. Bill!

A train ran over that shirt? Wow! That must be a super shirt! You are all so handsome on your walk!
