Defluffing Siberian Huskies

Siberian Huskies claim fame in many ways, but the quantity of fur is astounding. That results in the periodic defluffing that must occur.

Remove that undercoat - defluffing a Siberian Husky

Remove that undercoat.

We tend to “blow coat” twice a year. What we mean is that our soft, insulating undercoat drops in an amazing quantity of fur while our outer guard hairs remain. The running joke is that twice a year is January through June and July through December. While that might be a slight exaggeration, Hu-Dad claims that we conspired to rotate coat blowing so that at least one of us is always dropping huge quantities of fur.

Queen Natasha decided that this week would be a great time to explode in fur.Β To expedite the fur removal, Hu-Dad deployed our Metro Air Force Commander – our favorite fur removal tool. (Note – This is an Amazon Affiliate Link. If you purchase from this link, we earn a little money toward our kibble bill. Either way, we love ours and just want to share it with you).

When we say it removes lots of fur, we mean lots and lots of fur. Clean up can be quite the challenge:

The last time we posted about our blower, lots of readers asked to see it in action. We produced this video to demonstrate its power.

All that really matters at the end is that we have a satisfied customer. Er, Queen.

Much better,

Much better,

Oh nice! I like to take the pups to self-wash places to use their blowers, but it sure would be nice to have one at home.

Ever consider collecting the fur and having it spun into yarn? I save mine and hope to get it done to create a scarf.

We have thought about it, but never done it. The birds in our might revolt since they are accustomed in having the warmest, fur-lined nests around.

We saved the undercoat too. But the hairs weren’t long enough to spin – she needed them to be at least 1.5″ long. She ended up spinning them with some black wool, and I had just enough for one cozy mitten!

Before next coat blowing time (we just finished) I swear I am getting one of these miracle machines.

We stalled and stalled and stalled until a friend finally convinced the Hu-Dad. He doesn’t know how he did anything but brush us before this machine.
