Sure, it may look like we have the easy life. Couches. Fireplace. Big yard. Brothers and sisters for playtime. But the reality is that we work very hard.
Work, you say? What possible work do we do? Just look at all of these photographs on the blog and ask yourself if we don’t look like professional models.
And we do mean professional. As in we get paid. Check this out.

Yes, those are our favorite pumpkin treats from Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery! They are the sponsor of our basket for grand prize of the Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd, so we want to make sure you know that they ship all over. You, too, can demand their treats!
We will announce the winner on February 14, so your Valentine’s card must be received by February 13 in order to be eligible for the prize. Remember to mail your Valentine’s card(s) to your favorite member of The Herd (To: Dog’s Name, c/o The Thundering Herd, PO Box 1835, Maggie Valley, NC 28751-1835). If you wish, you may also include a donation made payable to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation (who saved 1,231 dogs and cats in 2014 – over 3 animals every single day of the year – see this article for details).
You can find the profiles of each dog at these links – Cheoah, Natasha, Qannik, Kiska, Typhoon and Frankie.
We will provide the first update later this week on Valentine’s received so far.

Wings of Doom
December 12, 2024
A simple nightly routine with my dogs led me to face the wings of doom, a hideous creature that lurks in the shadows of my yard.
For a nice summer treat is frozen pumpkin. We simply freeze it in mini muffin tins as we don’t have ice cube trays. (Okay, at our place it is an every day treat – the girls stand by the fridge after they’ve finished their dinner waiting for it.)
