Bad humans. Bad humans. Train and train the humans and yet they continue to misbehave. What did they do this time?
We would like to wish Qannik and Happy Gotcha Day – July 14. Oops.
Yep, two years – and six days – ago, we received a call from Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, the group we told you about in a recent post. They asked us to go check on a Siberian Husky at the Haywood County Animal Shelter that they were planning to pick-up the next week. Yes, we fell for that line.
When we arrived at the shelter, we first saw this beautiful white Siberian with sparkling blue eyes. He came bounding out into the play area with all of the enthusiasm that you would expect from a one year old. And then we noticed his fly bitten ears. The open cuts on his nose (you can see some of the scaring in the picture below taken a few weeks after he came to us). The mangled paws (still damaged, and our vets guess is that he spent much of his early life on a wire floor). And, worst of all, the cuts around his neck where he had been tied with a thin rope. Our hearts broke and a decision was made within seconds – this boy was coming home with us.
The scars, other than his feet, have healed or been covered with that luxurious fur of his. Most importantly, we changed his name from Snowflake to Qannik (Inuit for Snowflake). But best of all, like most dogs, Qannik is happy all of the time and does not care at all about his past. He is quite content to be his bossy, talkative self – he rarely is quiet. Unfortunately, the bossy does not really work because no pup actually pays attention to his constant demands and gripes.
So sorry, buddy, that we forgot the exact day of your adopt-a-versary. But in your usual cheerful spirit, we are betting you consider everyday your adopt-a-versary day. We agree.
P.S. – We never even mentioned the Ski Jacket Incident or the Dog Food Bag Incident. Aren’t you proud of us?

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?

Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Qannik is one lucky boy! Happy Adopt-a-versary! We are sure happy you were adopted into The Herd!

That’s exactly what we would have done. Qannik, you are a very lucky boy!
What a win-win situation. Everyone here is so lucky. This story makes my heart happy.
Happy gotcha day-and-a-bit Qannik! Your story reminds me a little bit of my best friend Zim. You are lucky you found your humans that day.

Oh, my… Juno would looooovvvvesss her some Qannik! Happy Qannik-aversary. we went to the dog park last night (too tired to walk them). this dog park is where Loki’s favorite Husky-Malamute pack goes every night. Loki adores them. Juno likes them too but they treat Loki like he’s an extended pack member. and when he see’s their owner, he goes NUTS and wiggles under his legs and then under the very TALLEST malamute, tommy…too funny to see him walk UNDER Tommy… the park is always like 90% sibe husky dogs there for some reason. all so very playful. it amazes me how people can think these dogs are “naughty” or “aggressive”. as most breeds go, that “I’ve encountered” they seem to be the most playful and sweetest, not to mention most skittish and silly. Also extremely intelligent but ‘selectively’ obedient (ha!) i didn’t know a THING about huskies and just got one. I don’t think i’d have the same opionion if I never owned one…
Happy gotcha day Qannik.
We think that your celebrations should go on all week as the humans forgot the actual day though…hehe

How fitting that it was the 14th – Bastille Day! Did your parents storm the (puppy) prison to spring you!?!?
This calls for lots of treats!
Play bows,
Zim
Happy Qannik-a-versary! Since your hu-dad was late in mentioning this, the party should be quite a bit bigger, with more goodies to eat! Just my feelings.
Kisses,
Stella
Happy Qannik-versary!
You are a very lucky pup to find the right pack that needed you. We can see the story that you averted. “Tragic Ending in Maggie Valley – Primary Suspect “Flint” sought. No physical description available but smells like kibble”
