Newtown, Connecticut

Today, we think of the families of Newtown, Connecticut, and want them to know that we at Chez Herd grieve for the loss of life and the loss of innocence.

We are so saddened by this horrendous tragedy. It is truly heart-breaking.

So many things to say during this unspeakable tragedy, and yet I’ll refrain from most of them. The children in that classroom are just a year or two older than those in my own classroom. How very sad that presents will sit unopened under Christmas trees, that a joyous time of year is tinged with sadness and that so many people want to point fingers and place blame. If only it were as easy to get help for those with mental illness as it is to get a gun. I feel terribly sad for everyone involved, and I loved Maya Angelou’s words about it yesterday.

“Our country is grieving. Each child who has been slaughtered belongs to each of us and each slain adult is a member of our family. It is impossible to explain the horror to ourselves and to our survivors. We need to hold each other’s hands and look into each other’s eyes and say, “I am sorry.””

You are exactly right about the gun issues. I also saw that 22 children were stabbed to death at a chinese elementry school. I will never understand why people feel they have to kill people, especially when the people have nothing to do with what is going on. The only real thing I can say is, without evil there is no good and without good there is no evil and I hate to say it, but I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. We may never know why something like this happens, but God allows it for some reason. Hugs and kisses to the herd.

There ARE no words to describe this senseless horror. Ice ‘n Ayla’s whole family are saddened and heart-broken for the taking the lives of children (and adults) this way. However much they try to legislate against firearms, whether handguns or rifles, the fact still remains that GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE — PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. If this fellow led a “troubled life”, and showed signs of “instability, someone should have paid attention before this tragedy was allowed to happen.
