Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.

And I see the crackers and cheese you are enjoying without me. Put down the prochutto. Step away from the couch. Open this door. Deposit the prochutto and cheese into my mouth.
Not only by sight, either, but by sound, too. Ayla can be lying down outside, against the house, and she knows EXACTLY where in the house I am, by listening to the creaking of the floorboards, I guess. Bet that’s what Frankie is doing, too.
