Roscoe: Couch Canine

As strange as it might sound, one of us just discovered the glory of being a couch canine and wants to know why no one told him before.

Just thought I would test the couch.
Just thought I would test the couch.

Yes, Roscoe has lived at Chez Herd for almost six years, but he doesn’t get up on furniture. We can only imagine that his first home had one of those “no dogs on the couch” rules. We don’t have such restrictions, but nobody told Roscoe.

Hey, this isn't a bad place to nap.
Hey, this isn’t a bad place to nap.

Several years ago, Hu-Dad finally convinced Roscoe to get on the human bed at night. He will stretch out while Hu-Dad reads before lights out, but the second the book is closed, Roscoe jumps down to his own bed in the corner of the bedroom. That’s fine, because we all get to choose where we want to sleep. No amount of coaxing, though, could convince Roscoe that other places were okay too.

Just adding a few blankets to make it even more comfy.

Until last week. Hu-Dad was eating breakfast and realized Roscoe wasn’t in the kitchen, his usual morning hang out. After a brief search, Hu-Dad found him on the couch. Roscoe wasn’t sure he should be there, but relaxed when Hu-Dad scratched his ears and walked away.

I might just become addicted to this.

Let’s just say Roscoe has come a long ways in a week. He’s become quite comfortable on the couch, even managing to rearrange the blankets to his liking. Way to go Roscoe. Congratulations to graduating to Couch Canine Class 1.

I’ve thought of him a lot too since Typhoon went on ahead. He looks a little unsure about being on the couch but, it shouldn’t take long for him to claim the territory. What a sweetie!
