Typhoon’s 11th Herdaversary

Eleven years ago today, we drove to Bristol Tennessee to pick up a sweet little Siberian Husky named Ty. At least, that’s what we were told. Instead, we brought home the mischievous, haughty, willful pup who steals our hearts every day.

I don’t know what happened. I was quietly napping and it exploded.

The Hu-Dad likes to use two syllable names with hard sounds because he believes it makes it easier to get our attention. In a poll of our readers, he trialed a number of different names beginning with Ty (so he didn’t have to change the original name). A reader laughingly suggested Typhoon. It stuck. Any resemblance to an actual natural disaster is purely coincidental. And, we should clarify, no matter how many syllables we’ve added to his name, Typhoon doesn’t listen.

Cheoah was surprised to discover young Ty was quite quick on his paws.

Typhoon’s quickness is legendary. To this day, Hu-Dad searches the yard with his giant flashlight for rabbits. Any bunny unfortunate enough to find himself inside the perimeter would discover the hard way that Typhoon could twist, turn, and race faster than any rabbit.

That quickness also gave Typhoon certain advantages in the kitchen.

One of Typhoon’s many little quirks was (and is) his love of paper. He’s long been known to “acquire” envelopes, magazines, and cards for shredding. The amusing part is he piles up the remnants in neat little pyramids. Destructive but fastidious.

Why do I have a business card? There’s a great reason. Just give me a minute to come up with it.
tastes good
Commence shredding

It’s never been just the humans that Typhoon has stirred up. He often finds himself escaping from some mischief with other canines hot on his tail.

Run, Typhoon, Run

Typhoon’s other amazing attribute are the springs built into his legs. As a youngster, he had an eight-foot vertical leap. We aren’t kidding. This is one of a series of photos we took one evening as Ty bounced over and over wanting to come inside the house. And, yes, that is the top of the door. He would have gone higher, but he would hit his head on the porch roof.

Why is this door still closed?

And so we give a nod to our very own His Royal Highness Little Prince Typhoon Phooey and all the trouble he has caused. He does make us laugh every day.

not taking bait
I don’t look for trouble.
don't make me laugh
But it always finds me.

11 years ago today, the humans and the rest of the herd were blessed with the sweetest, most idealistic, compliant, well-mannered baby boy EVER!! Typhoon is perfection! The stories posted about him have warmed my heart over the years. I am so thankful that I stumbled upon your website so many years ago. Happy Herdaversary Typhoon, and to all of the other humans and canines that have gotten to know and love you in those 11 years.

Eleven years of comedy, some worry and a lot of love. (I’d forgotten about his penchant for paper shredding.) I love the cheeky expression in the last photo.

Happy Herdaversary Typhoon. Thanks for all the great photos of your antics. You are truly a Prince, a trouble magnet, and so much fun to follow. I am sure Hu-Dad, and the other members of the Herd, need to stay alert with you around. Looking forward to more years of your photos. You were a lucky pup to be adopted into the Thundering Herd.
