Twelve years ago, we traveled over to Tennessee to meet a few of the dogs at Siberian Husky Assist. Our hope was we would find a good fit for The Herd. We hit the jackpot when we met Frankie. Like so many of our “first” photos, we revealed only the newcomer’s tail.
With his striking good looks and easy-going charm, he melded into the group easily. It took him a little bit to get used to riding in the Jeep with seat belts on, but he figured it out.
And let’s say he turned on the charm with his mentors, Natasha and Kiska. Miss Kiska, who didn’t warm to newcomers quickly, found Frankie quite suave.
He earned house privileges quite quickly with his good behavior. We discovered early on that napping in comfort was one of his favorite things to do. He’d barely been at Chez Herd three weeks when he developed quite the sleeping habit. To this day, he loves building a nest with blankets.
And he found a kindred spirit in the somewhat quirky, but always lovable Rusty the Rooster. The Rooster might have been our class clown of the time, but he and Frankie bonded well.
You might get the impression that Frankie spent much of his first year napping. Nothing could have been further from the truth. He loved to help Hu-Dad with his busyness. Take this photo of Frankie demonstrating the real meaning of laptop.
By now, you believe that Frankie’s first year with The Herd went without incident. Mostly, that was true. Mostly. Though, there was the parakeet incident, which is told at the end of this very long post.
Enough with activity, though, Frankie says we need to get back to napping. After all, he has the skill to be able to sleep anywhere. And we do mean anywhere.
Yes, that first year established why we call Mr. Frankie “Frankie Suave.” It’s hard to be bad when your favorite activity is sleeping. So we leave you with this, a pose that Frankie emulates to this day. Happy 12th Herdaversary!
