We walk a greenway shared among bicyclists, walkers, and others, so we are always looking over the shoulder to see if someone needs to pass.
We love the meandering greenway near our house and walk it a few times a day. Since it cuts through the woods beside a busy highway, sometimes it is difficult to hear approaching bicyclists. Most of the time, we canines will hear someone approaching before the humans, so we often signal that someone needs to pass. Landon seems to hear things no one else does, so he is always looking over his shoulder which causes the Hu-Dad to look backwards several times during every walk.
Some readers will point out that another member of The Herd likes to look backwards while walking, but Hu-Dad doesn’t pay much attention to him. Something about the boy who cried wolf (or the dog who walks backwards, whatever the name of the parable is).

A simple nightly routine with my dogs led me to face the wings of doom, a hideous creature that lurks in the shadows of my yard.
