We arrived home Sunday afternoon after a beach vacation week to discover that burglars attempted a major theft from Chez Herd.
Hu-Dad was running low on our food so he ordered more of our food from Chewy thinking it would arrive on Monday. Surprise, it was delivered by Fed Ex on Saturday. Without any rain forecasted (and we need rain bad), he thought it would be fine sitting outside until we arrived. Unfortunately, the neighbors raided our food.
When we turned into the driveway, the boxes were scattered across the driveway – our first sign of trouble. Upon closer inspection, Hu-Dad determined our black bear neighbors managed to not only rip open a couple of boxes, but they opened one of our dog food bags and munched for a while. Something scared them off (maybe it was us coming down the gravel road), so most of our food is still there! Crisis averted!
Don’t worry, Kiska plans to have a stern discussion with our black bear neighbors next time she sees them.

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
Ebby sez: Mom’s busy today, so told me to tell you that here, it’s not bears we have to worry about getting our food. It’s ravens and whiskey-jacks that come right onto the deck and raid my food dish — therefore, I make sure I eat it ALL, even the green beans!
Da nerve!!
Aww, while the theft can be costly, you have to feel bad for the bears who are desperately trying to get enough to eat for their long hibernation.
Bear 1 to Bear 2> They left their Noms out for us while they’re gone.
I know Kiska will have the situation fully under control!!!
