Day three of the Third Annual Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd contest benefitting Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation continues with Chief of Security Kiska, who is represented by her Youth of Sarge’s member, Ely.
Kiska is a sweet yet very shy 10 year old Siberian Husky. Her name means “pure” in Russian. She joined the herd in August of 2006. She was found wandering in the road and was taken to a rescue. She was very scared of humans. Hu-dad was looking at another dog but Kiska kept coming to his mind. Then someone told him, “You don’t always get the dog you want, sometimes you get the dog you need”. So he did! It took time for Kiska to adjust, but she became the perfect addition to the herd. Kiska is still shy but as sweet as can be!
Whether you want to support Kiska or any member of The Herd (and we will get the next five nominees done over the next five days), supporting a dog – and Sarge’s – is really, really simple. Just mail a Valentine to your favorite member of the Herd at Dog’s Name, The Thundering Herd, PO Box 1835, Maggie Valley, NC, 28751. And, if you want, include a check made out to Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation and we will make sure this awesome 501(c)3 organization gets your donation. Yes, 100% of your donations go straight to Sarge’s (which is why we ask you to make your checks payable to them and not us).
As part of our program with Sarge’s this year, we are sharing an animal that is currently looking for a home! How can you resist this face of Breezy!
Breezy is an adorable Boxer mix puppy about 3-1/2 months old. She has a fairly high level of energy, and loves to play with any toy, and especially adores playing with other dogs.
And, yes, Breezy is currently available for adoption through Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. Find their adoption application on their website or call (828) 246-9050 for more information. And, of course, mail a Valentine to any one of us with a donation and 100% of the money will go to Sarge’s to support their year round effort to find dogs and cats permanent homes!

Horrible Hurricane Helene: Why So Bad for WNC?
October 29, 2024
Hurricane Helene was a monster storm, but the way it hit Western North Carolina couldn’t have been much worse.
What a lovely intro to Kiska by Ely.
Lovely Kiska was meant to be!
Sweet, shy, silly ( loved the recent post exposing this hidden side), and security minded Kiska is a doll. I love long hair Siberian huskies. They are the softest things ever. What a sweet Valentine.
Sweet Kiska! So glad you settled in perfectly at Chez Herd! You’re just what hudad needed… a chief of security!❤️
